[OPEN]
WHO: Hermann, Newton, and hugely OPEN
WHERE: De Chima
WHEN: August 13th- early afternoon of the 15th
WHAT: Science bros are palling around De Chima, visiting tech and research facilities for job opportunities. Also just general exploring.
WARNINGS: TBA
NOTES: Feel free to respond with prose if that's your preferred method! Also let us know if you'd rather tag with only one of them, as they'll likely both be tagging a given thread by default.
SUBTHREADS: AROUND TOWN (DAY) | AROUND TOWN (NIGHT) | STARRWARE | OSCORP
[It feels something like a vacation- this whole past week has really, now that they've settled in and had time to take in the world around them. They have a decent hotel room booked for a few nights, nice new outfits, and schedules that allow for both appointments and casual walks around town.
Hermann watches the news and finds himself grateful for every day the news passes without mention of monsters bursting out of the sea. He's not sure how long it will last, but for the first time in a long while, he has hope.]

Hermann watches the news and finds himself grateful for every day the news passes without mention of monsters bursting out of the sea. He's not sure how long it will last, but for the first time in a long while, he has hope.]
Around Town (Any Day)
He makes sure to keep to their appointments, but they take their time with the rest. There's plenty to see around the city itself, restaurants to sample and gift shops to peruse for the sake of curiousity. Every now and then, Hermann waves Newton off to chat up the occasional local while he takes a few breaks between long stretches of walking.
It's nice just to stop and relax, to slow down and appreciate the utter lack of boneslums, devastation, or cordoned off sections of city where Blue exposure was still hazardous. Instead there are healthy trees and lush grass, and people going about their daily lives without the stressed, desperate expressions he'd grown used to seeing on everyone.
It's a novelty he's not sure either of them will be getting over soon.]
Around Town (Night)
[But Newt, for one, thought they deserved a drink or two and so here they were, two out-of-place nerds in their mid-thirties trying to look casual: Hermann in his overly stuffy sweater-tweed combo and Newt in jeans but jittering a knee with undue anxiousness, sitting at their table with their drinks of choice in the middle of a bar that was playing a sports game neither cared about, bickering about something only they cared about.]
Hey, it's a very professional suit---!
14th- Starrware
Assured they're both presentable, Hermann walks through the double doors and makes an immediate beeline to the receptionist]
Yes, we have an appointment with Ms. Starr?
14th- Oscorp
[Chemical engineering wasn't his or Hermann's field, but it was promising none the less. Hermann's technology abilities and experience would be an asset anywhere they went, and though Newt wasn't crazy about promoting the idea, he thought his own history with Kaiju studies and his current powers could perhaps make them an asset.
[He smiled enthusiastically when they were introduced and held out his hand to shake, tattoos (to Hermann's undoubted relief) hidden beneath the sleeves of his suit.]
Call me "Newt."

Seeing the two curious men poking about and smelling them as unmistakably imPorts, Koromaru bounds up to them and offers the tennis ball in his mouth for fetch, wagging his tail hopefully. Minato is a good twenty feet behind him but takes his time catching up.]

Of all the animals, he liked birds the most. And he had his attention focused on was a piebald-patter black and white bird. Those were rarely seen in the city. The diguised human nearly had the chance to feed the bird when the approaching humans made it fly off.
Mewtwo shoots a disgruntled look in the human's direction. That was valuable a bird-watching moment.]

Straightening, he catches what he assumes to be the owner walking toward them and offers something of a tentative smile in greeting. Fingers drumming over the handle of his cane, Hermann makes no move to retrieve the slobbery ball when it's dropped and rolls against his foot, and favors it instead with something of a grimace.]
I'm not throwing that for you.
no subject
When they realize they are not alone, both of them turn to face Newt and Hermann. Karen looks momentarily surprised, lifting her wrist to check the time on her watch. ]
Oh, is it two already? [ She looks to her employee. ] Tell them I'll give a call later. I don't know if I'll make it to my bank today.
[ Then she turns again to greet Newt and Hermann proper. ]
Dr. Hermann Gottlieb and [ who is the other guy again? ] associate, right? Sorry about that. Time's kind of escaping me today.
no subject
Associate?! Lady, I'm Dr. Newt Geizsler, his colleague of over five years. I have SIX degrees. More than Hermann. [He rounded on Hermann again, forgetting their audience.] Seriously, what the hell, man? Did you just forget to mention me, or is that how we're introducing me nowadays? Associate??!
no subject
Don't be ridiculous, Newto- Doctor- I'm fairly certain I introduced you properly if you would calm down and listen for one moment. Let's not forget we are here for you primarily.
no subject
Oh sure, you remember me now, but apparently couldn't be bothered when you were speaking to her about our appointment!
no subject
[ Karen is a fairly tall and built woman, so she isn't afraid to shove herself in between them, placing both hands on either of their shoulders to separate them the way a teacher breaks up an argument in a school yard. Her gaze is flat and unimpressed. ]
If you two want to continue this, you can happily do so outside this building.
[ She looks at Newt, pursing her lips. ]
Look, I probably forgot what he said. I'm not trying to devalue your work or skills.
no subject
'Ms. Starr, this is Doctor Hermann Gottlieb. Myself and my colleague, Dr. Newton Geiszler are going to be-'
[It stops and Hermann glances to Newton] Now will you settle down? Ms. Starr has clearly stated she's on a tight schedule.
14th
Should they park in the makeshift lot and find a security guard, he might take them to a very tall, broad-shouldered man in a dark blazer and a hard hat, who's leaning over a table looking at blueprints. The man looks up and straightens at their approach.] Can I help you gentlemen?

That being said, Norman would prefer to have a stable of clever -- perhaps even genius -- imPorts working for him before he settles for hiring locally; imPorts have more intellectual variety. ImPorts have more capacity for that sort of brilliant work he prides himself on, so it's just good business. Clever benefits him, so long as it isn't clever in the wrong sorts of ways -- and that in particular, he thinks while looking at them, may well not be a concern.
Norman's smile is polite but not broad, marked by just the slightest crinkles at the corners of his mouth; his gaze slides from "Newt" to the other one, before he extends his own hand in return. His grip is tight, perhaps a bit excessively so. ]
Norman Osborn. But you can call me Mr. Osborn. [ Very generous of him. He gestures down a lengthy hallway. ] Won't you two follow me? We can continue this conversation in a conference room where we may all be more comfortable.
no subject
[Because it's apparent that Osborn isn't impressed with them- or perhaps especially Newton- but that isn't particularly unusual by any stretch of the imagination. They could both be off-putting in their own ways, only Hermann's adopted the social formalities to combat it, and he takes charge of the conversation.
Unfortunately, it is a lengthy hallway, and he takes longer strides to avoid lagging behind too far. He'll regret it later, but this is more important for now]
Regrettably, we've heard little about your corporation, and our schedules haven't allowed for more than a cursory search for information. We'd be very interested in hearing more about your work here.
no subject
It's an impressive-looking project, although Hermann suddenly doubts the wisdom of coming out here. Nonetheless, he steps forward first to offer a hand]
Mr. Xanatos? I'm Doctor Gottlieb, and this is Doctor Geiszler. We're in town for the weekend looking at various research institutions and caught word of your project. If you have a few moments, we'd be interested in hearing more about it.
no subject
This is the humble beginnings of the multi-billion-dollar De Chima Research Center complex. Three square miles of the most state-of-the-art gizmos and equipment money can buy, financed by Xanatos Enterprises in conjunction with StarkTech and some other local institutions.
What's the primary area of your research?

[ the call comes from the woman stepping out of a coffee shop. she stops as she comes face-to-face with, well, a familiar face. claire has a steaming cup in hand, her phone in the other. her lips stretch in a coral-painted smile.
she does not recognize the man with him, but she can guess from context. dr. gottlieb. she smiles politely at him too, before addressing newt again. ]
How are you? Here on business?
no subject
Aww, Hermann's says no dog drool on his side of the park! Dude, come on. It's not like he's a Kaiju. Are you? You a big scary winged Kaiju? [Newt laughs and picks up the ball, preparing to toss it when he spots the owner approaching them. Thinking better of playing fetch without permission, he plays keepaway instead, earning himself a few more excited attempted dog-kisses.]
no subject
Oh, it's no trouble. Important as my work is, I work well ahead of schedule. As CEO I have to be flexible enough to make time for everything.
[ Then he stops, indicating the nearest available meeting room and opening the door for them. ]
Oscorp may have a focus in chemical distribution and research, but it's not a limited focus. We also work with technology, independent weapons contracts, and multi-field R&D. What would your specialties be?
no subject
Of course, he's a monster-fighting dog, so he's remarkably agile and quick and probably lands a few more licks than might be expected. He growls playfully as he dances around.
Minato barely thinks of himself as his owner, to tell the truth; he doesn't even think of Ken as his owner, which is surely closer to the truth. He slides one hand out of his pocket and offers a wave in greeting. The difference between dog and teenage boy could not be greater: Koromaru is expressive and energetic, Minato lethargic and calm and seemingly half-asleep.]
Hi. Thanks for playing with Koromaru. I'm a little worn out today.
I'm sorry I'm so behind
He shakes the man's hand and feels kind of tiny.]
Pleasure to be here! And call me Newt.
As for my research, my focus lately has been silicon-based xenobiology--understanding what makes them tick and how to combat them. Herm--Doctor Gottlieb is a physicist and mathematician. He coded the initial Mark I Jaegers himself.
So what kind of research are you planning to focus on?
no subject
My interests lie in biochemistry and medical research as well as robotics and aerospace engineering-- I'm planning on a rather magnificent wind tunnel about three hundred feet behind me-- but this center is for all disciplines. I'm sure we can fit in something for the two of you.
no subject
A research facility of such scale and variability sounds exceptionally ideal. [A place where he can freely ponder the new laws of physics and interdimensional travel with all the equipment he could ever ask for and no pressure for production] May I ask what sort of timetable you're looking at for completion and opening?
