[Oh you poor thing, Steve.

Gogo hadn't come to Heropa for a party (how can she think of celebrating when Hiro was in this much trouble?), so she was going to pass on by when she saw Steve being the most intriguing mix of humiliated and charming at the same time. It is a welcome distraction, to be honest.

So she changes course to make her way through the crowd to say hello. The decorations are enough to tell her what the celebration was, aha explains everything. Though fourth of July or not, the emphasis on America seemed a little over the top. In joke? Probably.

She waits within view until he's done with his current conversation, popping her gum absentmindedly.]

[ Steve makes the best of the conversation he's stuck in; someone commenting on the cake, wishing him happy birthday, humming a few bars of Grand Old Flag while Steve silently envisions helping Bucky onto a long walk down a short pier. It's only when his conversation partner finally bows out in search of a hot dog that Steve catches sight of Gogo, his eyebrows raising. Did she get an invite, too? He wouldn't put it past Bucky; little bastard managed to get half the populous here, it feels like. ]

Here for some cake?

[ His tone is both friendly and cautious somehow, as though he's expecting more songs and fire shows at any minute. ]

I'd be here for a distraction, but you're probably too polite to skip out of your own party. No, I was just passing by.

[She looks like she could use a distraction herself, but she's putting on a pretty strong face of it. Just gotta get through today.

She glances around at the displays and gives him a smile that probably could have been teasing if it hadn't been for this particular weekend.]

[ He laughs at the mention of skipping -- but less in a ha ha that idea is absurd sort of way and more like a ha ha oh god if only I wouldn't be hunted down like wayward livestock vibe. There's no doubt in his mind: Bucky would find him, and Bucky would sing the loudest, wildest rendition of Grand Old Flag he could manage as punishment.

[ A long-suffering look is cast in the general direction of his partner and best friend before he returns his gaze to Gogo, his smile giving way to the furrowed brow of concern. ]
