Turning over a new LIF
WHO: The imPorts!
WHERE: The Ashen Tree, NYC, New York. Need help getting there? See here!
WHEN: April 14th, 8:00 PM - April 15th 1:00 AM
WHAT: The April Swearing In Guessing Game!
WARNINGS: None foreseeable!
Welcome to The Ashen Tree! This sleek, elegant private property leased out only occasionally for limited and exclusive events. The Ashen Tree is a five story, century-and-half old mansion down East 67th Street, constructed somewhat in the vein of those famed and excessive Vanderbilt houses. The theme inherent to The Ashen Tree is in black and white -- this duality means more than just visual aesthetic. There is right, and there is wrong. There is good and there is evil. There is Registered and there is Unsettled. This reoccurring dilemma won't be lost upon your hosts, governmental or otherwise.
The thrust of this Swearing In is to play a game! There will be two versions of this game. If you are newly imPorted (if this is the FIRST Swearing In that occurred since you have been ported in), then you are automatically entered into a raffle to win prizes! You can enter your name into the raffle ONCE for EVERY THREAD with A DIFFERENT CHARACTER that you have! How lucky you are! If you have BEEN here (if this is NOT the first Swearing In that occurred since you have been ported in), then you may only enter the raffle if you WIN at the game.
What is the game?
The Identity Game.
Every imPort who is in the DESIGNATED ROOMS: ROOT, TRUNK, BRANCH, and TWIGS will do their best to pretend to act like another imPort. If someone (who is also in character, just like you are) guesses what imPort you are pretending to be, then THEY may enter their name in the raffle. If you guess the pretend identity of someone else, then YOU get to enter your name in the raffle. There is no sign-up for who pretends to be whom, and there can be multiple imPorts impersonating the same imPort. That will not be regulated. The more you guess correctly someone's pretend identity (which can be achieved by threading with many people), the more you get to enter your name in the raffle. You MUST guess the identity of the imPort being impersonated correctly -- there is right and there is wrong. If someone guesses your character's impersonation correctly, then you have to tell them. You do not have to keep the same impersonation for the WHOLE LOG, but you do for at least a single thread! No changing up identity on someone. ANY imPort can play this game, INCLUDING new imPorts. While new imPorts can play the Guessing Game, or impersonate other imPorts to their desire, their eligibility to enter the raffle is still judged differently. Because they're new!
The LEAVES ROOM is the "safe" zone. You can be yourself! You can stop pretending! Well, maybe some imPorts never actually stop pretending -- maybe there is some gray between all this black and white.

[Abduxel had been standing aside, looking out the window with a flat look on his face. There's a small grin, now. Gil had been funny to talk to - the reaction he'd gotten out of him. But their prior conversation seems auspicious in retrospect, now that Lucifer had arrived.]
You were right that they bring Gods here.
no subject
[ He's pulled away from distant thoughts, returning the reality he's currently stuck in. Surprise filters into both his expression, eyebrow rising, and tone when he addresses the man he only knows as Matthew Lin. The odd one from the network a while back. That conversation had been something. ]
You.
[ His comment also manages to catch Gil off guard. ]
... the Porter's power might be stronger than any god it's ever been able to bring to this world.

[ He visibly relaxes, his shoulders settling back into their proper places. Eventually, he turns away from the window to face Abduxel properly. ]
I'm honestly not sure if the fate known as Lachesis is inside that Porter. Although if she is, it might make sense. Lachesis wants "heroes".
no subject
Wants heroes, and brings the Devil himself? And Loki. [There's a hint of a smirk at one side of his mouth.]
no subject
[ He does a double-take, his eyes slimming initially before he really hears Abduxel's words. That's when his eyes widen. ]
The devil?
no subject
no subject
[ His voice falls low and there's a disturbed familiarity with the name that accompanies it. ]
no subject
Hell, don't say his name! Do you people know anything! He'll hear you. Speak of the devil and he doth appear, ring any bells?
no subject
But he still heeds Abduxel's warning. His bright eyes scour the crowd as if expecting to see Lucifer's deteriorating face somewhere among it. ]
Shit, this isn't good...
... did you speak with him?
no subject
[Sort of. He never met the guy. But 90 years living in someone's home, you sort of feel like you know them.]
Which, as you can imagine, is kind of a shame for me.
no subject
[ Now his earlier reactions to hearing about gods like Loki being brought into this one make so much more sense. Gil can't fault him for being wary when he had just arrived and all he had possibly ever known were gods who weren't to be trifled with. ]
Why? [ In response to the second half of his statement. ] Did he want something from you?
no subject
[He's wrong. But there were so many iterations of the Devil in so many different universes, it's easy to see why one might make that mistake; and Hell itself, where Abduxel comes from, is its own plane of existence, separate from the mortal plane. It only makes sense.]
[But why... that's harder to answer. He hesitates. He's said too much already. Lying,] Well, he's the Devil, what do you think? He wants my soul.
no subject
[ He shrugs. Honestly, he has no idea if the Devil is more than just a concept in his world. There are phrases that begin to stand out to him, such as "the devil whispered in his ear" and such, but Gil had always been under the impression it implied the chains of his world. ]
Your soul?
[ Gil shakes his head. ]</small. I'm not exactly familiar... what will he do with it?
no subject
[He sighs.] Do you know what God is? The Devil is - the opposite of him. He was an angel, but rebelled against God because he hates humans, which are God's favourite creation. Long story short, now he rules the underworld where the souls of sinners rejected by God are supposedly sent for eternal torture, damnation. [By the end of this diatribe, he sounds almost bored, speaking quickly to get it over with.] That's why he wants souls: to cast them into the fiery pits of Hell.
no subject
How do you stop a being like him? I know ordinary weapons have no effect.
no subject
no subject
He's been stopped before.
no subject
no subject
[ And then he was ported out at some point. That was the troubling part. ]
no subject
You're serious? They managed to jail him?
no subject
... they did. I don't know how. I wasn't there to see how it happened or who stopped him.
no subject
no subject
No kissing. [ He tugs at his own collar. ] It's Gilbert.
I don't blame you for not knowing. It was nearly a year ago, after all.
