Turning over a new LIF

WHO: The imPorts!
WHERE: The Ashen Tree, NYC, New York. Need help getting there? See here!
WHEN: April 14th, 8:00 PM - April 15th 1:00 AM
WHAT: The April Swearing In Guessing Game!
WARNINGS: None foreseeable!

Welcome to The Ashen Tree! This sleek, elegant private property leased out only occasionally for limited and exclusive events. The Ashen Tree is a five story, century-and-half old mansion down East 67th Street, constructed somewhat in the vein of those famed and excessive Vanderbilt houses. The theme inherent to The Ashen Tree is in black and white -- this duality means more than just visual aesthetic. There is right, and there is wrong. There is good and there is evil. There is Registered and there is Unsettled. This reoccurring dilemma won't be lost upon your hosts, governmental or otherwise.

The thrust of this Swearing In is to play a game! There will be two versions of this game. If you are newly imPorted (if this is the FIRST Swearing In that occurred since you have been ported in), then you are automatically entered into a raffle to win prizes! You can enter your name into the raffle ONCE for EVERY THREAD with A DIFFERENT CHARACTER that you have! How lucky you are! If you have BEEN here (if this is NOT the first Swearing In that occurred since you have been ported in), then you may only enter the raffle if you WIN at the game.

What is the game?

The Identity Game.

Every imPort who is in the DESIGNATED ROOMS: ROOT, TRUNK, BRANCH, and TWIGS will do their best to pretend to act like another imPort. If someone (who is also in character, just like you are) guesses what imPort you are pretending to be, then THEY may enter their name in the raffle. If you guess the pretend identity of someone else, then YOU get to enter your name in the raffle. There is no sign-up for who pretends to be whom, and there can be multiple imPorts impersonating the same imPort. That will not be regulated. The more you guess correctly someone's pretend identity (which can be achieved by threading with many people), the more you get to enter your name in the raffle. You MUST guess the identity of the imPort being impersonated correctly -- there is right and there is wrong. If someone guesses your character's impersonation correctly, then you have to tell them. You do not have to keep the same impersonation for the WHOLE LOG, but you do for at least a single thread! No changing up identity on someone. ANY imPort can play this game, INCLUDING new imPorts. While new imPorts can play the Guessing Game, or impersonate other imPorts to their desire, their eligibility to enter the raffle is still judged differently. Because they're new!

The LEAVES ROOM is the "safe" zone. You can be yourself! You can stop pretending! Well, maybe some imPorts never actually stop pretending -- maybe there is some gray between all this black and white.

I remember you. From the network.

[Abduxel had been standing aside, looking out the window with a flat look on his face. There's a small grin, now. Gil had been funny to talk to - the reaction he'd gotten out of him. But their prior conversation seems auspicious in retrospect, now that Lucifer had arrived.]

You were right that they bring Gods here.
corviform: (042)

[personal profile] corviform 2015-04-19 10:25 am (UTC)(link)
— ah.

[ He's pulled away from distant thoughts, returning the reality he's currently stuck in. Surprise filters into both his expression, eyebrow rising, and tone when he addresses the man he only knows as Matthew Lin. The odd one from the network a while back. That conversation had been something. ]

You.

[ His comment also manages to catch Gil off guard. ]

... the Porter's power might be stronger than any god it's ever been able to bring to this world.
abduxel: (no I can't slow down - I can't hold back)

[personal profile] abduxel 2015-04-19 02:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, apparently the Porter is fate itself. What do you think of that?
corviform: (132)

[personal profile] corviform 2015-04-19 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
... I hadn't mentioned that, had I?

[ He visibly relaxes, his shoulders settling back into their proper places. Eventually, he turns away from the window to face Abduxel properly. ]

I'm honestly not sure if the fate known as Lachesis is inside that Porter. Although if she is, it might make sense. Lachesis wants "heroes".
abduxel: (but I know just what you runnin' from)

[personal profile] abduxel 2015-04-19 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't remember. [Unusually honest of him to say.] I'd just arrived, so things were hectic.

Wants heroes, and brings the Devil himself? And Loki. [There's a hint of a smirk at one side of his mouth.]
corviform: (017)

[personal profile] corviform 2015-04-19 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, it all does seem very random to me. For someone who claims she wants heroes she's bro ―

[ He does a double-take, his eyes slimming initially before he really hears Abduxel's words. That's when his eyes widen. ]

The devil?
abduxel: (ain't no rest for the wicked)

[personal profile] abduxel 2015-04-20 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the one and only. [He doesn't sound pleased about it.] Lucky us.
corviform: (117)

[personal profile] corviform 2015-04-20 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
Are you talking about Lucifer?

[ His voice falls low and there's a disturbed familiarity with the name that accompanies it. ]
abduxel: (ain't nothing in this world for free)

[personal profile] abduxel 2015-04-20 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
[His eyes widen and brows furrow like DUDE WHAT ARE YOU CRAZY. He hisses urgently,]

Hell, don't say his name! Do you people know anything! He'll hear you. Speak of the devil and he doth appear, ring any bells?
corviform: (238)

[personal profile] corviform 2015-04-20 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
[ Sadly, no. There are many things Gil has yet to learn despite being out of his universe for three years and religion is one.

But he still heeds Abduxel's warning. His bright eyes scour the crowd as if expecting to see Lucifer's deteriorating face somewhere among it. ]

Shit, this isn't good...

... did you speak with him?
abduxel: (to call home)

[personal profile] abduxel 2015-04-20 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, of course I did. [He says it before he stops himself. He's clearly had too much wine, he thinks to himself, being so careless. He takes a breath, composes himself.] Sorry. We - had some run-ins in my home world. He knows me.

[Sort of. He never met the guy. But 90 years living in someone's home, you sort of feel like you know them.]

Which, as you can imagine, is kind of a shame for me.
corviform: (052)

[personal profile] corviform 2015-04-20 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
You're from his world?

[ Now his earlier reactions to hearing about gods like Loki being brought into this one make so much more sense. Gil can't fault him for being wary when he had just arrived and all he had possibly ever known were gods who weren't to be trifled with. ]

Why? [ In response to the second half of his statement. ] Did he want something from you?
abduxel: (no I can't slow down - I can't hold back)

[personal profile] abduxel 2015-04-20 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
Uh, yeah. You probably are too, you just don't know it. He has his own world, one that touches every one of ours.

[He's wrong. But there were so many iterations of the Devil in so many different universes, it's easy to see why one might make that mistake; and Hell itself, where Abduxel comes from, is its own plane of existence, separate from the mortal plane. It only makes sense.]

[But why... that's harder to answer. He hesitates. He's said too much already. Lying,] Well, he's the Devil, what do you think? He wants my soul.
corviform: (227)

[personal profile] corviform 2015-04-21 10:12 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know... the devil doesn't really exist in my world or in any particular religion. It's possible, but...

[ He shrugs. Honestly, he has no idea if the Devil is more than just a concept in his world. There are phrases that begin to stand out to him, such as "the devil whispered in his ear" and such, but Gil had always been under the impression it implied the chains of his world. ]

Your soul?

[ Gil shakes his head. ]</small. I'm not exactly familiar... what will he do with it?

abduxel: (and what matters ain't who's baddest)

[personal profile] abduxel 2015-04-21 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I mean - I knew you weren't religious, but you really don't know anything about this stuff, not at all?

[He sighs.] Do you know what God is? The Devil is - the opposite of him. He was an angel, but rebelled against God because he hates humans, which are God's favourite creation. Long story short, now he rules the underworld where the souls of sinners rejected by God are supposedly sent for eternal torture, damnation. [By the end of this diatribe, he sounds almost bored, speaking quickly to get it over with.] That's why he wants souls: to cast them into the fiery pits of Hell.

[ In short, Lucifer is a dick. It hadn't taken him long to figure that one out the first time that monster was here. Gil had been unfortunate enough to run into him and nearly get himself murdered in the process. As much as he wishes he could put a bullet in Lucifer's head and rid this world of such evil, he knows caution has to be exercised. This is the man that unleashed a horde of monsters upon the country without batting an eyelash. ]

How do you stop a being like him? I know ordinary weapons have no effect.
abduxel: (ain't no rest for the wicked)

[personal profile] abduxel 2015-04-22 02:51 pm (UTC)(link)
That's the real kicker. You can't.
corviform: (050)

[personal profile] corviform 2015-04-22 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
[ His eyes slim. ]

He's been stopped before.
abduxel: (and I suffer)

[personal profile] abduxel 2015-04-22 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
[.............] How?
corviform: (the dress is fucking ugly.)

[personal profile] corviform 2015-04-23 07:21 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure how or who did it. I know he was jailed for his actions last year.

[ And then he was ported out at some point. That was the troubling part. ]
abduxel: (this ain't no place for no better man)

[personal profile] abduxel 2015-04-23 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[He puts a hand on Gil's arm.]

You're serious? They managed to jail him?
corviform: (138)

[personal profile] corviform 2015-04-25 09:25 am (UTC)(link)
[ He startles at the other's touch, trying to pull his arm back after a moment. ]

... they did. I don't know how. I wasn't there to see how it happened or who stopped him.
abduxel: (Default)

[personal profile] abduxel 2015-04-25 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I could kiss you. This is fantastic news. Did I ever get your name? I'm Matthew - Matthew Lin. [He extends a hand to shake, enthusiastically, not reacting to Gil pulling away from his touch.]
corviform: (269)

[personal profile] corviform 2015-04-28 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
[ His eyes widen and he definitely ends up taking a whole step back from the other. ]

No kissing. [ He tugs at his own collar. ] It's Gilbert.

I don't blame you for not knowing. It was nearly a year ago, after all.
