There’s something happening here

WHO: imPorts!
WHERE: Maurtia Falls ‘Big Sleep’ hotel, and in the Maurtia Falls Central Park directly across the street
WHEN: Noon to dusk on August 15th, a fine sunny day
WHAT: Registration in motion inside, dissent in motion outside! While the government hosts its Swearing-In and Might Club training event within the hotel, dissatisfied imPorts stage a Swear-Out protest nearby to demonstrate their displeasure! Remember to record your character’s status here
WARNINGS: Non-lethal violence in the Might Club prompt. Note that this event is divided into two top-levels for the two competing gatherings- see here for plotting and further details

Welcome, imPorts new and old! It’s a beautiful summer day in Maurtia Falls, at least by the standards of that frequently dark city, and a great day for having a party. Or two competing parties, in this case.

All of you have been taken to another universe and asked to Register with the government that hosts you. Most are willing to cooperate with this system, but some are unhappy. So while the authorities celebrate the path of heroism and generous benefits inside a gorgeous hotel, some imPorts and their native supporters have gathered in the park across the street to promote a vision of independence and betterment in opposition to the status quo. And of course, the cameras of reporters and fans alike are everywhere, recording almost everything for the world to watch.

Maybe you’re concerned about the signs of division in this super-powerful imPort community and its complicated, tense relationship with the local government. Or maybe you’re just happy to have twice as many opportunities to mingle and scoop up free food. Visit one event, visit the other, or visit both: the choice is yours. And isn’t choice what days like today are all about?

Otto Octavius | OTA

[ Truthfully, Otto isn't as invested in the politics as he likes to give the impression that he's invested in the politics. He finds those who are anti-Government to be far more useful than those who just quietly follow the status quo. He's here to make an appearance. To put himself into Count Dooku's good books, essentially. But he's avoiding the reporters and he's notably wearing gloves.

His mechanical arms are in fine form, one holding a pastry, and the other one holding a cup of green tea which he sipping from. As the day progresses, his voice seems to get... more sultry. Weird.
]

Mmm, delectable.

[ Later, he actually stops a shouting match between some of the demonstrators that was just about to become physical -- someone was going to throw a punch. But Otto very carefully and deliberately lifts both participants up by the scraps of their collars with his mechanical arms and plants them far away from each other. His arms retract and he adjusts his tie.

He would've done it except he's feeling weirdly calm today and a fight would ruin his mood.
]

Simpletons.

[ And then he does what he came outside for -- he lights a cigarette with his arms and starts smoking it. Why doesn't he just use his hands? ]

Sorry for the delay

[Ordinarily, Hans might be a little more cautious about approaching a man who had an abundance of mechanical arms protruding from his back, but such is not the case today—whether it's because he's just grown that much more accustomed to seeing strange things in the two months that have passed since being imPorted, or perhaps the strangely refreshing red tea he's sipping is fortifying in more ways than one. Not to mention, the fluid prehensile movement of the arms is truly mesmerizing.

He's close enough to hear the man's appreciation of his own beverage; a sentiment with which he concurs, although perhaps not with quite as much passionate fervor. He glances over, making an observation of his own.]

I can't say I've ever been to such an exquisitely catered protest rally before.
doctopussy: (educated fool with money on my mind)

It's all good!

It's not very common for protests to be spearheaded by the aristocracy, either. Perhaps they simply run their rallies at a higher standard.

[ His arms curl up as he says so. It's all rather irrelevant to him; he's not really one to go to protest rallies. He prefers a more direct approach.

He takes in the appearance of this newcomer.
]

I don't believe we've been acquainted.

A good point.

[Although, despite the title and the man's overall demeanor, it's a little bit hard for Hans to pigeonhole Dooku as a member of the aristocracy—at least not in the traditional sense of being a country's highest class of citizens, with so much old money the interest income alone was a substantial fortune. Here he was displaced and while not without power (considering the nanites) on the same level as all the other imPorts (presumably). Leading him to wonder why any resentful imPorts didn't simply use those powers to fight back, rather than staging this sort of thing.]

No, we have not. I am Hans Gruber.

and now I'M sorry for the delay !

Dr. Otto Octavius.

[ Otto holds out his real, human hand out to shake. ]

What brings you to this exquisitely catered protest today, Mr. Gruber? A true dedication to the cause or...?
exceptionalthief: (you're very clever)

no worries!

[personal profile] exceptionalthief 2017-08-28 04:40 pm (UTC)(link)
[He'd be lying if he said he didn't feel a tiny measure of relief at not being expected to shake one of the mechanical hands—not out of any apprehension mind you; it just probably would've ended up being one of those awkward moments.]

I was invited by Count Dooku. More a matter of information than dedication at this point. What about yourself?

[Perhaps Otto has seen the 6"5 security guard moving through the crowd? He's certainly not hard to miss, and neither is Otto for that matter. Huge mechanical arms like that aren't exactly available at Walmart after all.

This isn't the first time that Gemini's seen Otto, having observed him through the 'bug' that she had attached to Adachi, which she had managed to extricate while the pair's backs were turned.

So it's partly a desire to learn more about the scientist that sends the shapeshifter Otto's way, deep voice booming out in agreement.]

Sadly idiocy is a much too common trait around here.

[personal profile] doctopussy 2017-08-28 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Very much so.

[ Otto looks up and down the newcomer, somewhat indifferently but casually calculating his possible worth. The good head's difference in height between them (Otto is around 5'9" ish) doesn't appear to intimidate him at all. ]

It seems I've done your job for you, my apologies.

[ He doesn't sound sorry at all. ]

[Sizing one another up was a constant feature of life among villains, and Gemini doesn't mind being underestimated at a first meeting, in fact she encourages it.]

No need to apologise. When it's necessary to tread on some filth nobody likes the way it sticks to the boots.

[He was welcome to deal with them. Gemini just wishes she could have seen those intriguing arms really cut loose.]

The Stars are right.

[She tests casually.]
