roses are red, violets are blue
WHO: Kotetsu, Barnaby
WHERE: Barnaby's apartment
WHEN: Sometime in May idk handwavey motions
WHAT: Flowers are a totally normal present that don't send any mixed signals at all of any kind
WARNINGS: Idiots
[For all that he isn't an unintelligent man, Kotetsu is sometimes a very Simple sort of man. He likes to make the people he cares about happy, and is thus often easily convinced into decisions that are not well thought through, like the time he spent $30 on a hideous stuffed animal because a salesman told him it was the most popular toy available in the market.
This time, Aerith's convinced him that it would be a great idea to buy flowers from her as a present for Barnaby sometime, and while her intentions are certainly less profit-oriented than the salesman back in Sternbild -- well. Again, he doesn't always think the implications of these things through. Specifically, how getting "just because" flowers as a present for someone might be misconstrued.
But really, he'd almost forgotten about the idea until he passed by a store window and saw a rabbit-themed planter, and remembers both Aerith's offer and that time that his partner had left him a compliment-filled message for no real reason beyond wanting to do something nice for him. What a better time to return the favor than a time when there was no reason to expect it, right? And he could make up for having been a dumbass about it back in February, it'd be awesome.
It's with that idea in mind that he walks on up to his partner's apartment, carrying a planter filled with hibiscus flowers and lilies, before he suddenly decides on a better idea. (Or a worse one, depending on your point of view) He sets the planter in front of Barnaby's apartment, steps out of immediate view, and sends his partner a text. heeey are you busy, let's have lunch together!!]

I've got free time. Did you have any particular place in mind?

But then the reply comes, and he takes a moment to think about it, since he hadn't actually thought out his plan (as per usual) beyond actually sending the text.]
uhhh how about that one taco place on 7th
the one next to the bookstore with the logo of the little cartoon worm in the apple
[why would he remember the names of these places when he can just describe them in tortured detail instead]
no subject
[That would have been a lot more succinct than what Kotetsu wrote, Barnaby thinks to himself as he gets up from the couch to turn off the music. At the same time, he presses "send" for his next text:]
Where are you now? Did you want to meet there?
no subject
[watch him not remember it again next time.]
nahhh let's go there together, it's more fun that way
[Most things are more fun in his partner's company, honestly, for all that he'll complain about Barnaby not wanting to have fun.]
i'm at my place now :D
[Well, at least one of those statements was true]
