"That's a personal holiday," she teased, "but I'm sure it's one you both remember quite clearly." Mako closed her eyes and thought. "I have meant to see if there was a Shinto shrine somewhere in this place but it seems that time hasn't allowed for it. I was brought up Shinto but the most I have done was celebrate my ancestors. Sometimes the New Year. A shrine to my parents, all of them, is enough."

"There is an American holiday, Valentine's Day, that I might wish to celebrate...if you would like to do so?" It comes out almost shyly. That day would be a first one for her as silly as it might seem. Mako knew that the actual day did not matter because every day for her was a celebration that they were together. She found such comfort in the small ordinary things they did for each other but dressing up in nice clothes for him - this would be a good thing, too.
