Spock, 8/1

[overemotionally]

[As soon as he got back to his place, he immediately passed out to sleep off the headache from being ripped from a mind meld so abruptly. Even sleeping for 12 hours right before that had nothing on this. Jim is fairly groggy when he wakes up a few hours later.]

[overanalytically]

[ He'll wake just in time to hear his phone vibrating with an incoming text on the nightstand where he threw it. The time on the display of it reads in the later afternoon. ]

[overemotionally]

[Still foggy, he gropes around the nightstand in the general direction of the buzzing, grabs his comm and opens it, face still half planted in the pillow.]

[overanalytically]

[ A simple text on the too-bright screen reads: ]

Is 1900 at the [ some restaurant that Spock frequents in Heropa ] acceptable for an evening meal?

[overemotionally]

[It sure does take him a couple of minutes to rub his eyes open as he blinks against the bright screen. He looks at the text and then at the current time and starts to slowly sit up, continuing to rub at his eyes. There's a pretty good 5-minute delay in how long it takes Jim to reply:]

Sounds good. Meet you there?

[overanalytically]

[ Huh, Spock wonders what the delay was about. ]

Agreed.

[ ... and that's it. Texts with Spock are usually pretty succinct. ]

[Jim gets up from his bed to shower and clean himself up. A shower washes away the last remnants of the hangover-like headache from the meld. He's not risking what happened last time so makes sure to put on a half decent shirt--a black long sleeved button-up, not too casual and not too fancy.

He's surprisingly not anxious about this meeting, considering how things had almost ended this morning. He hadn't had time earlier today but now that he was awake, he was focusing on what happened before things went sour in the meld.

He makes it to the restaurant right on time.]

[ He'll arrive to see Spock waiting by the entrance in more casual clothing himself though still somewhat dressy by normal standards: a blue, tunic-like top with a higher collar that fastens down the middle and dark gray slacks. The restaurant itself is Olive Garden-esque with its family-like atmosphere and oddly blended with a Asian-hipster theme, which thankfully gives Spock a robust vegetarian menu.

He stands from the outside bench when he sees Jim approaching, tucking his hands behind his back. He looks ... calmer than he did when Jim last saw him, if nothing else. His expression a cool bland, but softening when he sees Jim. ]

[overemotionally]

[Jim won't lie, he really likes seeing Spock in Vulcan clothes. His expression subtly (and subconsciously) brightens when he sees Spock.

This was one of those times where he has to sit and think on the differences between their cultures because though Spock was much more closed off on the outside, Jim knew that meant that Spock was feeling better after being given space and time to meditate. It's one of the many reasons he appreciates the bond--it's a way to feel what's underneath all of that, a discreet feedback that he can react to.

He does notice the softening though--he's so much better at reading those expressions--and smiles in return, not before unabashedly looking Spock up and down of course.

There's a small jerk of his towards the entrance.]

Let's go, I'm starving.

[Because he literally hasn't eaten from sleeping most of the day. This is bound to screw up his sleeping schedule quite a bit.]

[overanalytically]

[ Spock subtly pauses at Jim's looking him over—was his appearance somehow inappropriate—but he relaxes again when Jim is moving inside. ]

Did you not have an afternoon meal after we awoke?

[overemotionally]

[He doesn't even notice the pause because he's already heading inside. At Spock's question though, Jim glances back at him quickly before continuing on. He hadn't really wanted to bring this up at all.]

Nah, I laid down when I got back.

[overanalytically]

[ Spock steps in next to him as the wait staff shows them to a table. Sorry Jim,he's gonna push. ]

You continues to rest after your prolonged rest the night before?

[overemotionally]

[Dammit Spock. Jim glances at him sidelong.]

Had a headache.

[overanalytically]

[ He pauses noticeably this time (accidentally ignoring the poor wait staff pulling out a chair for him), a dull spike of worry washing in along their bond. ]

... From the meld?

[overemotionally]

[Jim turns to face him, also not noticing the waiter.]


...It's gone now. I'm fine.

[overanalytically]

[ The poor, poor waiter, looking between them as they have this mini face-off.

Spock eventually takes pity (no, he barely notices the waiter) and gives a small nod to Jim, finally taking his seat. ]

[overemotionally]

[Yeah that was not how he had wanted to start their meal.

Jim's not lying or hiding anything, it was just a reminder of what had happened earlier (not to mention it was all his own fault it happened in the first place ).

After the impromptu staredown, Jim too takes a seat, glad that Spock wasn't pushing any further. As far as he was concerned it was done and over with and he was okay. So, time to find something else to talk about.]

How's the research going?

[overanalytically]

[ Spock does want to ask more about it, wanting to be cautious about any effects he may have caused to Jim's mind. But from Jim's avoidant tone and posture, it was clear he didn't want to discuss it any further. Was he really still in pain and just trying to reassure Spock?

He tilts his head slightly at the subject change, already picking up a menu. ] Regarding which subject?

[overemotionally]

[Too bad, Jim got the jump on you, Spock.]

How many are there? I was talking about Miles' pain medicine.

[overanalytically]

I have several projects at the moment, though I have asked for Doctor McCoy's assistance with Lord Vorkosigan's medication. The Doctor appeared disgruntled at this reality's lack of appropriate medical technology, but he has agreed to assist me in its completion.

[overemotionally]

[Jim grins wolfishly at imagining Bones bitching but in actual jargon to Spock. Good old Bones.]

More like "had a conniption". Hopefully that means he's almost done working on my allergy meds.

[overanalytically]

He made no mention of them to me, though I imagine he would complete them together.

[overemotionally]

I should harass him to make sure he's still working on it.

[Said casually because Bones is his best friend and what use is it being best friends with James T. Kirk if he's not allowed to harass you?]

Perhaps harassment is not the ideal method of inquiring.

Listen, I think Bones likes having someone to be annoyed at. Besides, if he has something to put in a hypo and stab me with, it'll probably cheer him up. Win-win.

[No Spock, humans don't understand Jim and Bones' friendship either.]
