WHO: Sabriel, Eddie, possibly other RISE members/people investigating?
WHERE: Starting at RISE HQ, moving elsewhere
WHEN: Early July
WHAT: Investigating some disapearancses
WARNINGS: References to death and torture.
[RISE HQ]
Sabriel's office at RISE HQ wasn't big- just enough space for a desk and couple of chairs, with most space dedicated to notes and paperwork, with a few photographs on the shelves. The walls had large maps of the Porter cities, each with several pins stuck in them.
Currently, Sabriel's desk is covered with notes relating to her latest case- there are photographs of the victims, of the places they vanished, and diagrams showing exactly what injuries were inflicted on them when they died, from what Sabriel saw of their spirits.
She tries not to look at those charts too much. Instead she focuses on the notes about what the victims said when she summoned their spirits, trying to make sense of what they saw.
Maurtia Falls
They've dragged the crime scene technicians out- Maurtia Falls might not like imPorts but they are, in fact, obligated to help RISE. They're just not happy about it, especially since it means they're following the orders of someone barely out of adolescence, but the hostility mingles with muted fear as Sabriel explains how she gained her information. Some become more compliant, apparently hoping to get this over with as soon as possible. Others subtly try to avoid her. She doesn't show any obvious reaction though- she keeps her demeanor calm and businesslike, making sure they go over every detail and occasionally referring to her notes and writing something else down.
It's midday, and after heading inside the club's basement to confirm that yes, someone definitely died in there, she heads out to deal with the club's owner. He wants them to hurry up and move out- this sort of thing is bad for business- and Sabriel just grimaces before smiling politely and telling him they'll finish as soon as they can, but they need to do this properly. They're in public, and she really doesn't want to make a scene by flinging a silencing spell at the man.
De Chima
They find the crime scene in the evening- it's the crypt beneath an old church- one that was never used for interning bodies, just as a basement and meeting room half a century ago, from the traces Sabriel sees beneath the dried blood- it looks black, in the dim light. Sabriel and the crime scene investigators are the first living people to set foot in there after the incident- and Sabriel realizes that she can hear trains in the distance, even if the sound is muffled by the walls a bit.
The police here are helpful- if they're also surprised by her age and disturbed by her casual admission that she gained her information from the dead, they're more willing to push past it. One of them offers her coffee, which Sabriel gratefully accepts. Charter knows she won't be sleeping tonight.
