[June in Florida is enough to steam up your glasses the moment you walk outdoors, so what better place to practice powers based on airflow?

It's not that Fuu hasn't had loads and loads of practice, mind. But her recent encounter with a CAR falling off a BRIDGE has made her think it's time to sit down and really figure out her limits in this world.

That's why she's in a local park--in a somewhat out of the way location, but not invisible--with a series of hand weights on the ground in front of her. The twenty-pound weight is bobbing gently in the air, wrapped in a tiny green cyclone, as she continually glances between it and a stopwatch.]

B: Nonah

[But when she wants a break from the heat, Fuu heads to Nonah. It's a little busier here--a lot more people looking for imPort selfies, which she usually declines politely. Or, perhaps, dodging behind You to distract the particularly persistent. Deflection is a valid tactic--she'll try to get you out of it, sorry.

She also stops off at the local arcades, with a little pocket-sized notebook yes, cellphones can do everything, but she's still clinging onto some vestiges of 1993. She might be standing about seven feet away from You, adjusting her glasses as she watches you play.]

[After chatting on the network, Fuu and Mr. Vovokoski arranged a little meeting so he could get some practice with the game that he is, after all, supposed to be marketing. It's hard to get settled into this odd Earth, so if there's any way Fuu can help a newcomer, she'll do so.

And she's pretty curious about him, too. He has the body of a child, but clearly, the mind of an adult... it reminds her a little of Clef, the Guru who taught her magic in Cephiro.

She's sitting with a small pack of cards at an outdoors cafe with her small pack of Illusion cards, waiting for him to show--wondering if he's as small in-person as he appeared on the network. Hopefully he won't be hard to spot.]

[Malms arrives a few minutes before the arranged time, and he is just as tiny in person as he looked on the network. He's left his robe at home (sensible for this heat) in favor of a short-sleeved white top with some sort of short black cape affixed at the shoulders. He smiles and waves when he spots Fuu, a full-body gesture, clearly one practiced to draw attention from among people much taller than he.]

Hello, Ms. Houoji! Thank you again for this. [He makes a detour to obtain a child's booster seat from the proprietors, then comes over and takes a seat across from Fuu.] I got myself one of the starter decks we sell, so I have my own deck, but haven't had a chance to open and look at it yet.

[Saint Walker had woken up one morning, and found himself changed. His memories were different, though his memories of this place remained, albeit they seemed a little distant, almost warped with time. Still, he is perfectly fond of old friends, even if his own priorities are somewhat changed.

When he encounters Fuu, he appears to be a Green Lantern, with a ring to match (though none of the power shifts that come with it; his powers remain the same, albeit differently tinted), and as he sees her carrying a weight with her wind powers, a green hand reaches out and grabs onto the stopwatch so he can take a look at it.]

Keep going. I am certain you can hold this for just a little longer.

[That outfit reminds her even more of Guru Clef. She waves back with a smile, noting the expansiveness of his body language.]

It's no trouble! I haven't used mine very much myself, but some students at school have let me play with them.

Would you like something to drink? They do very nice smoothies here.

[When Fuu glances up from her stopwatch, she might notice a small child watching her in awe from a little ways away. It might not be such an odd thing, given their age, if not for the sweater they're wearing--no one in their right mind would be out in this heat wearing that if they had any choice.]

[When she does spot Frisk, they startle a bit and glance around nervously before coming a little closer, tugging the fingers of one hand in what must be a nervous habit.]

You...you have magic?

Certainly, if you'll let me pay for it, and yours as well - apparently my position comes with something called an 'expense account', and as far as I can tell, this fits under the acceptable uses for it, under 'training'.

[He's not entirely sure what a smoothie is, but he'll look at the menu and pick something that looks interesting. As they wait for their drinks, he looks across at Fuu.]

So, pardon me if this is impolite to ask, but what sort of world did you hail from, before arriving here?

[Fuu hears the footsteps and glances up momentarily to identify them as belonging to Saint Walker, but it's not until a big, transparent green hand reaches over to take the stopwatch that he gets her full attention. She really would have expected him to ask first.

Still, she smiles in greeting. The stopwatch reads at about three and a half minutes.]

I'm glad for your confidence, Saint Walker. [...] It seems like our colors match today!

[That is a strange choice of clothing for Florida in June, and on the second glance, Fuu pulls the weight out of the air to focus on the child (whose gender she can't determine) completely.

She gives them a friendly smile; they seem a bit shy.]

I do, yes--it's based on the wind element. [She bows politely.] My name is Fuu Hououji. May I ask yours?

[Maybe not shy, necessarily, but definitely a little nervous. Frisk smiles a bit and takes a few more steps forward. They've never met a human mage before, and while it's kind of scary, it's also really cool!]

[* Careful.]

My name's Frisk. How, um...how'd you learn it?

If you insist. [She would have happily paid for it, but as an adult(??) he probably has too much pride to let a teenager do it. Also, she likes his attitude towards his expense account.]

It's a natural question, don't worry. Actually, I'm from a sort of parallel version of this world, although I was born and raised in a different country.

It's nice to meet you, Frisk-san.

I was given magic by quite an accomplished teacher--a Guru. We ended up getting separated for a while, though, so most of the individual spells are of my own invention.

[* You make a mental note to remember your honorifics with the mage.]

Really? didn't know people can give you magic! I thought you hadda...um...be born with it an' stuff. What can ya do with it?

Ah! So all this technology is much more familiar to you. My line of work back home gave me enough experience with Allagan relics and Garlean magitech to not feel completely lost, but it's hard to shake the feeling that if I do something wrong it's going to explode or worse.

[He places an order for a smoothie with fruits that sound familiar, then turns his attention back to Fuu.]

So, what are you studying, if you don't mind my asking?

I suppose it all depends on the rules of a particular world. [Certainly it's more common in fiction to have magic be an inborn talent.] Mostly, I use it for defense and healing. Wind makes an effective shield.

[She places her own order, and then her eyes go wide when Mr. Vovokosi explains the difficulties of magitech.

Explode? Fuu smiles nervously, cupping her cheek in one hand.]

Oh goodness, no. The worst that can happen from a computer error here is that you have to turn it off and on again. But it also doesn't incorporate magic into the design.

I want to become a computer programmer, so I'm focusing on that. I come from a little over twenty years ago and it's impressive how much progress has been made--[She holds up her phone.] For instance, this is much more powerful than a half-meter tall computer tower from 1993.

[Walker exclaims the word as if it's a strange on to him, though it clearly is not. Still, his eyes widen and his mouth twists into the smallest of frowns as he shakes his head, a small, minute movement.]

When did you ever learn to call me such a thing? Not Saint -- not any longer. I am simply a Walker.

[That takes her aback... Why, it's how you introduced yourself comes to mind, but she dismisses it. Clearly, something Strange is going on, and it might take more subtlety to figure out what.]

Ah... I apologize, Mr. Walker, I must have been misinformed. I hope I didn't cause any offense.

Ohhh, it's like green magic! That's so cool!

[They cock their head curiously, glancing to the weight.]

The issue is less with magic, and more with the designers. The Allagans... [He pauses, considering how best to convey the nature of that ancient empire and its people.] Imagine a dragon, one whose rage, even thwarted before its fullest expression could be realized, was enough to melt rock and rain destruction across a continent. Imagine the power needed to capture such a being alive, and then imagine the hubris needed to imprison them in a prison constructed to use them as a method to change the energy of the sun into aether.

Then imagine using the devices they created, a thousand years or more afterward, fallen into disrepair. [After a moment, he adds:] Although the most dangerous portions were the systems still functioning as designed, now that I think back on it...

No -- no offense. More drastic measures would have to be taken before I would take offense, [he reassures her, and that smile is mostly the same though, perhaps, less chipper than it once was.] It was simply strange to hear it. It has been a very long time before anyone has called me by that name.

[Fuu's eyes widen as Mr. Vovokosi details the particular troubles of troubleshooting in Eorzea. That... all sounds like a very bad idea, yes.]

Oh my. It sounds like those kinds of devices might be best kept locked up for everyone's safety, though given how powerful they must be I'm not surprised the temptation to use them is so strong. [She cups her cheek in one hand.] What exactly were they designed for?

[He is really quite different today.]

I'm glad to hear it--I try not to be overly drastic. [She cups her cheek in one hand.] I hope you haven't run into the same mistake elsewhere.

Well, it is green, and as wind is a part of nature it fits that meaning as well.

As for the weights, it works slightly differently here than it did there. I need to know exactly how long I can maintain my spells and under varying stresses--I don't want to be caught short in an emergency.

I do not see why I would; none here are those who had previously known me, and therefore none should know to refer to me as such. Including yourself, I might add.

Actually, there's very little temptation to use them, at least in Eorzea. [The Garleans are another matter, but let's not get into them right now.] The problem is that the Allagans were a vast empire, and prolific builders - there were relics of and ancient facilities of theirs scattered across the continent, even before the lesser moon Dalamud was broken and more bits got dropped across the map.


The majority of what I've personally encountered was either linked to maintaining control of that dragon I mentioned, or was part of a vast flying base of theirs we just discovered this year, again powered by imprisoned beings of incredible power. I've spent a... significant amount of time in the past couple of years, trying to shut their machines down or otherwise keep them from falling into the wrong hands.
