Oh, and what a set of teeth they are. Lucifer doesn't seem the slightest bit unnerved--after all, Eve was his; he had corrupted her, and all her little children were quite the teethy lot themselves.

He studied Nicolas intently, as he lied - not to Lucifer, but to himself - and then gave the slightest shrug.

"I did more than was needed," he admitted. "I mean, I'm not a hero, Nicolas. I was asked to something that would get me - has gotten me - in quite the shedload of trouble; do you really think I'm not going to take something out of it myself in the process? Kitty knew that--that's why she and I are still, remarkably, on good terms despite all of this.

"She knew what she was letting herself in for, and some part of you must come to accept that, before you make more trouble for yourself. Or for her."
