He does, to start. Anchoring himself to the ground and pouring more power than he'd need to lift himself, trying to cancel out two forces. The air warps and strains around him, creating weird pockets of shifting gravity and ominous feelings as two things try to happen at once.
It has the desired effect, at a lot more energy cost than it'd take to simply fly, or shatter rock..or someone's head. His clothing billows out a bit around him, whipped by a wind that originates from himself and below him. It shoots up his body, his short, white hair drifting upwards into wild, characteristic streaks, fanned and blowing in a stream of energy just as requested.
The carpet itself distorts a little from his efforts, trying to lift up with him and pulling a few staples free from its moorings. This is fine, it's fine. Power builds and flexes in his mind, collecting in bright pools through his thoughts with whispers to use it, not just power up... go on, he wants to...
He lets it all go after a minute, trying to not wince at the backlash of all that focus for no release of the strain. The song fades, leaving the warning starts of headache behind. All that to prove a point!]
