Kaneda Shotaro | OTA

one;

[Kaneda had given everyone who wanted to strike Heropa an hour’s notice before he advanced on Pan’s proverbial kingdom. And with that hour passed, it’s safe to say that he kept his word, stocking up on everything that could ruin Pan’s day and doing the one thing he knew he could do: run. His feet never failed him, and with Heropa under the spell it was, it made for some rough terrain. Forests were still new to him. Give him a road, anything in a city and he could run through it with ease. Neo Tokyo wasn’t kind with the traffic, and Nonah had proved to be a piece of cake in comparison. Trees, dirt, sticks and leaves didn’t have the same feel to them, and had he not have to chase Inuyasha through them, he would have been fully unprepared.

But that’s just it--he’d done this before. And he’d never admit that he was thanking the stupid dog demon from the bottom of his heart. His boots hit the ground hard, powering him through the rubble of what was remaining of Heropa, and the forested ground that Pan had changed it into. Powered by the adrenaline that had replaced his blood, he grabs a branch, swinging from it to jump over one of the overturned trees that lay in his path.

Everyone else would just have to keep up.]

two;

[Kaneda was never good at sitting still. He was always moving, and when he wasn’t, he was fidgeting until he could. Which is why having to stop for a breather still has him itching to just take off running again. He knew he couldn’t--not everyone would keep up with him, and he’s sure he’d burn out well before he got to Pan. Ken kept an eye on him for that, making sure he’d drink water, eat something to keep his blood sugar up.

Because that’s certainly not what he’s thinking about right now.

But even bullets have to stop eventually, and it makes for a very frustrated Kaneda. With his whole army behind him, he stands at the edge of the lagoon, trying to get his bearings. He doesn’t trust a single thing in this jungle, and should anyone step forward to get a drink from it, he’ll be the first to hold a hand out to block their way.

Glaring at the water as if it was challenging him by existing.

And that’s when the lagoon takes him up on that, releasing the same gripping fear from those trees and foliage that he felt at the August Swear-in. A familiar, but not at all welcome feeling. And he can feel the tendrils of fear wrapping around his heart, his body taking a step back as he tries his damn hardest to fight it down. Push that fear down like he always has.

Blood pumped through his veins, eyes were shot open wide, and then…

That voice speaks, the riddle caught in his ears like a chilling whisper.]

three;

[It feels like hours since he first made his way into the forest with everyone that had showed up at Heropa’s porter. And he probably isn’t all that far off, which means he’d been making progress for that amount of time. But even his legs have to give a little, and there comes a point where they can’t go on, not without getting a moment’s rest. Water, food...unsurprisingly were still needed even when you’re running on adrenaline and anger.

It’s about the only time Kaneda’s kept still, sitting with his back against a tree and munching on some of that chocolate Ken had packed for him. Lost in his thoughts unless someone’s going to break that silence.

If you’re looking for conversation, now’s as good of a time as any.]
