Someone very far away is screaming. The sound is muffled, like Jesse's hearing it through several layers of pillows, but he recognizes it enough that it draws him out of his reverie. Slowly, his head turns and his eyes drift toward Skye. She looks agonized, and normally that would upset him, but he has trouble connecting the image of her to any feeling. His mouth goes slack like he wants to say something to her, only the words disappear from his mind before they make it to his tongue. It's okay, he would like her to know. He's okay and she'll be okay. They'll all be okay. Everything is soft and warm here.
Jesse's eyes follow her gaze to Joel next. Joel, whose attention is still fixed on Skye. There was a task, Jesse remembers, that Joel is supposed to accomplish. It has something to do with him. He unfolds his arms and twists his body until he's crawling on hands and knees. If he puts his mind to it, maybe he can stand up. He gropes the wall and tries it, wobbling and unsteady.
