Power testing

((OOC: Feel free to mingle with each other. I'll be tagging each person normally and proceed with the tests individually until the uh 'finale'. PM me if you have any questions.))

[Alan has his typewriter (made by Pym) set up on a table with a small stack of paper lying next to it. He's seated on a chair as he slides the paper into place, making the right adjustments and everything necessary.

He has sent out a text a few days ago to everyone who's volunteered, giving them the time and place. There are about a dozen flashlights on the floor. The lights in the warehouse aren't all lit so it's partially shrouded in darkness.

He looks up when people start to arrive, smiling thinly.]

Hey, glad you could make it.

[he leans down and picks up a flashlight to hand to them] Hold on to this and use it at the first sign of things going wrong. Shine it on me and then go for the lights. [he points at where the light switches are] I'll be letting everyone know what I'm writing before I do it.

[It's also noteworthy that there's a swirl of Darkness coming from his person (centered around his torso). It's something he's steadfastly ignoring]

[Hope flicks the flashlight he's been given on and off, just to make sure it's working. He has an inkling of what's coming because he listened in on the network that day, and he understands the need for light due to... well, that dark mist hanging about ("Dark Presence" indeed).

But he's almost never without questions.]

Does it have to be light from these? [Waggles the flashlight a little.] I have a few abilities that can provide illumination as well, such as fire, and pure light itself.


[[ ooc: just to note, anyone can reply to this \o\ feel free to ask him questions about his powers, etc. ]]

Pure light sounds like it could work. Or sunlight in general. That's why the door is open.

[though it's still kind of dark and shadowy in here]

Fire should work too. It's just not as powerful.

[Erwin took the flashlight, testing it's weight in his hand before ensuring it worked. He was coming without the 3DMG but that didn't mean he was any less wary of how things would go.

His gaze follows where Alan is pointing, giving a nod once he knows where the location is.]

I see.

[Erwin isn't ignoring the swirl of Darkness around Alan's torso, however, raising his eyebrows.] And that?

[glassbox]

[ Her attitude about the whole thing is fairly unconcerned -- even before all this, that night he'd met her at the convenience store, she'd already had her first brief encounter with what Alan had introduced to her as "the Darkness." Either way, the dark wasn't one of the things she was afraid of.

Still, she took the flashlight in a firm grip when he handed it to her. And she doesn't let that swirl of shadow around him go without comment. ]

Y'alright there, Alan?

[caladrius]

[He'll hold off on demonstrating what he can do-- Last Resort tends to exhaust him, despite his ability to keep on going when it comes to magic.]

That sounds reasonable to me. So, what are we going to do first.

[youbastard]

[Ellie tested the flashlight once just to make sure it turned on. Not that she didn't trust him to have already done that, but it was always better safe than sorry, right? She offers Alan a small smile.]

Nervous at all?

[typewriting]

I'm going to see if I can move some things in the warehouse.

[He finishes adjusting the paper in the typewriter and takes a look around, looking for anything he can move. The dark mist surges around his head when he starts to type and he seems to go into a trance.]

[ The warehouse was silent save for the clacking from the typewriter. He was trying to do the impossible: move boxes without physical help from his volunteers.

Suddenly, a large bird flies in from the entrance and crashes into one of the stacked wooden boxes, knocking it down to the ground ]

[The loud crash jolts Alan back to reality and the mist coils away, just in time for him to see the dazed bird flutter to the ground]

Damn. Okay. I guess it works.

[typewriting]

[Alan doesn't follow his gaze. He knows what he's wondering about]

Part of the Darkness that followed me here. It usually hides in the morning but I think it knows it's wanted today.

[typewriting]

[Alan doesn't seem all that happy about it either but he's ignoring it]

Yeah. I'll be fine. Let's just get this over with.

[typewriting]

[he even has spare batteries on the table. Just in case the flashlights get drained. He offers her a strained smile in return.]

A little. Let me know anytime you want to back out.

[Hope watches the proceedings wide-eyed and almost flicks on the flashlight as he sees that mist swirl about, but he manages to stop himself because it's an experiment. And it doesn't appear to be hurting the man in any way.

But he doesn't stop himself from sprinting towards the bird to make sure it's okay after its less-than-stellar landing.]

That was not moving things in the warehouse, unless you count me as a thing.

[He's pretty worried about the whole procedure, really. How dangerous is this man's ability?]

[typewriting]

[Extremely dangerous. It would seem]

Yeah, it looks like I don't have as much control as I thought. Is the bird okay?

[The bird seems to be injured from its crash but it's still alive, chirping softly and flapping its wings]

You speak of it as if it's a being with it's own thoughts.

[Though his gaze is sharp, he's merely curious to the nature of the Darkness and what exactly he will be observing, safety isn't exactly his first priority here.]

[caladrius]

[He picks the bird up gingerly, hand under its belly and holding its wings in place so it wont aggravate its injuries.] It's injured. Not badly, though. Probably something I can help with.

[There's never been a time that he'd used a Cure on a bird though, so Hope has no idea if it will work. But he's not about to let more "words" do more work on this bird, in case something else happens to it.]

[glassbox]

[ She points the flashlight at the ground, flicking it on and off once or twice just to make sure all is well and good before she glances back up at Alan. ]

If y'say so, hon. I'm ready t'go when you are.

[ She's invulnerable. What's the worst that could happen, right? ]

[typewriting]

Good. It's not infected then. We should probably let it out before it's used again.

[Alan seems concerned about the bird. He also looks a little tired but not too worse for wear.]

[typewriting]

It's sentient. More or less. Smart enough to possess humans, at least.

Are you ready? I'm going to start with the first test.

[typewriting]

Let's start with environment testing first.

[The first test goes not so well but the bird is being taken care of by Hope at least]

[glassbox]

[ Lil shrugs lightly. She's more durable than the bird was, at least. ]

Whatever y'want. Let's do it.

[typewriting]

I'm going to use it to attack you so get ready.

[He falls into the trance again the moment he starts to type. This time part of the dark mist swirls away from him and towards another sizable crate, proving that it definitely could move things on its own had it wanted to. The crate wobbles, wriggles, and then floats into the air before rushing towards her at full speed.]

[sacrificusdux]

Duly noted.

[Erwin nodded, the flashlight ready in his hand. Nothing risked, nothing gained, after all, he was willing to take this risk.]

Yes, please proceed.

[typewriting]

All right. I'm starting by moving things.

[He places his hands on the typewriter and gets to work. The first test doesn't go very well. It injured a bird as he tries to move a crate.]

[Erwin remained silent as he observed, his hand steady on the flashlight despite the darkness swirling around the man's head. The other was willing to undergo this experiment, he would not step in unless absolutely necessary.

The appearance of the bird flying in to crash against the crate makes his eyes widen. Someone else seems to be able to attend to the bird, that's not his concern, his eyes remain on Alan.]

Impressive though I hope that's not the end of it.

[typewriting]

It won't be.

[Alan answers when the mist swirls away from his head and back down to his torso.]

So far it's as unpredictable as ever.

[youbastard]

I've participated in worse ideas than this. [Which may not be that much of a comfort, but at least she's trying.] It'll be fine. You're prepared and it looks like there's a good amount of people here if something goes wrong.

Is this the most you are able to control it?

[His eyes go to the swirling darkness.]

It seems there is potential yet to be used the most effectively you must have more control.

[Hope throws him a worried look as he passes a hand over it, the glow of the Cure spell giving his skin and the bird's feathers a blue tinge. when he's done, he walks over to the door and lets the bird go there, waiting until he no longer sees it before returning to the darker part of the warehouse.]

I suppose we should start, then. [He's wondering what kind of infection he was talking about though-- the bird didn't even get cut, or that badly injured.]

Uh-huh...

[He flicks the flashlight on and off once or twice just to make sure it's working.]

Does your power stop working in light, or are you just going to use it as a signal to stop?

[glassbox]

[ He does warn her, but honestly, Lil's reflexes aren't probably as lightning fast as all the superheroes in the comic books have. She sort of eyes the crate as it starts to wiggle --

And then before she knows it, it's smacking into her, splintering against her impenetrable bioaura. ]

Ow, Jesus --

[typewriting]

[Alan sighs softly once the bird flies away. He tapped enter twice to create a new paragraph on paper]

Yeah. Do you mind watching that tap over there?

[he points towards the wall where a water pipe leads to a faucet and metal basin setup]

I'm going to see if I can use the Darkness to turn it.

[he sets to work typing and the Darkness swirls back into position around his head. Some of them even swirls away into the darker corners of the warehouse where the water pipe juts out from the ground. Within seconds, there's the sound of water rushing through the pipes at speed but the faucet remains firmly shut. It takes almost half a minute and eventually it's the pipe that gives, bursting and spraying water all over. Alan is still typing away, seemingly oblivious to what's happening as the water gushes.]

[typewriting]

I'm trying but I'm barely aware once I start writing. It'll take some effort to fight it.

[typewriting]

[the sound of her exclamation makes him jolt back into awareness and he turns to her in alarm]

Lil?

[typewriting]

Yeah. That's the idea. If you're all right with it, I'm going to start small and then move up to testing involving those of you who volunteered.

[typewriting]

It keeps the Darkness away. Since my abilities are powered by it, it should stop it.
