There was still a certain amount of distance that Samara kept between herself and the Major. Not because she disliked him or did not trust him, but simply because she did not know him. That meant there was a certain amount of caution that she exuded when she spoke with him. It was difficult to determine just how much she should offer him about what the future might hold for them all. There was no good news to bring, no hope to offer that things improved. Instead there was only more terrible news of more loss to share and that had to wear on anyone. How much would he wish to know and how much did she wish to tell him? That was the question on her mind as she entered their arranged place of meeting.

Only a tiny smile was offered as she sat down. He was nervous, she picked that up quickly enough. It was difficult to hide too much from someone as old as she was.

"It is going well enough. I am attempting to readjust to this place." It was so different from anything else she had experienced that it occasionally proved to be something of a challenge. "How are you, Major?"
