He nodded. "Yeah, Kaidan. I get that now. It...took a while. I stopped that Marker, but not before it touched me." And now he'd gotten to the complicated part. "See, the signal that it broadcasts, it...implants blueprints in the brains of everyone who hears it. Some people...can't take it. It's what drives them crazy. Others, like me, they Markers call us Makers. We...store it, and it makes us able to read the runes on the Markers, and...we know how to build more. It's just...so...powerful that it takes over...sometimes."
He ran a hand over his face before continuing. "It implants in your sub-conscious. You don't even know it's there. Scientists discovered a way to access it, though. They...found me, in an escape pod. The sedated me, and for three years, they kept me in a psyche ward on the Titan Sprawl, and they built more of them." He looked up, then. "See, they're powerful, and EarthGov though, hey, since we're so low on resources, why don't we build one of these on every populated planet, outpost, and moon in the solar system, and beyond, and harness all that untapped power?" He shook his head. "The problem with that is, if the signal gets free, people start going bat-shit and the Marker runes start rewriting our fucking DNA the first chance they get."
