He apparently started out as an adversary to Spider-Girl, but soon he became one of her fiercest allies. He can usually be found lurking in the shadows keeping an eye on her when he's not working. She trusts him with her life, and that's a trust the guy takes very seriously.
[He almost feels bad for the Scriers. Almost.]
I met him when a woman named Allison Mongrain tried to kill me. She was apparently a disgruntled former employee of my grandfather's who, like Kaine, hated my grandfather and had a soft spot for May Parker. Like you, she apparently she thought I was trying to finish what my grandfather started. [He had been, for a time, but she was a few months too late, that ship had long sailed by that point.] He helped talk her out of it, probably for her sake more than mine, but I still appreciated the sentiment either way.
He's also rather close to my wife. Brenda briefly was a super-villain by the name of Raptor. She didn't want to be, but... [He pauses. As much as he wants to defend her right now, it might be veering too far from his point.] But when she was she seriously hurt someone. Someone at my dad's firm tried to help, but she still went to jail. Once she was there she was recruited by the FBI to join a team of other super-villains in exchange for a lesser sentence.
Y--Kaine was the leader of that team.
He knew Brenda hated working for Wheadon--their boss--and that she felt trapped between a rock and a hard place. In his own way he helped make the experience more bearable. She told me they talked a lot, about what I don't know, but she came to care for him deeply. [And one he realizes how that might sound...] In, uh, a father figure kind of way.
[A chuckle.] I can't tell if he disliked me more for being an Osborn, May's friend, or Brenda's fiancee.
So while we might not be incredibly close, the two most important women in my life trust him, and that's all I need. I trust him too. And frankly, for what he did for Brenda I owe him a debt.
[Whenever he mentions his wife, his voice takes on a tone so full of affection it's almost sickening. And why shouldn't he? Brenda's his world. Speaking of his bride...]
I hear he's also the best man at our wedding, and gives a rousing speech about harming anyone who tries to come between us.
