He makes a face, considering the question. "Well, I know what cars are. Back home they weren't exactly common, since we lived on islands and you travel using boats mostly. But on the biggest island some people had them, if they were fairly wealthy. So they're a little more noticeable than the landscape, I guess, but not so much that I feel like they're new the way you do."
