WHO: Greed ( [personal profile] nestingdevil ), current employees of the 'Nest, and OPEN
WHERE: The Devil's Nest, Maurtia Falls
WHEN: Backdated to October 31st
WHAT: Halloween Bar Event
WARNINGS: PG-13 to R? WHO KNOWS ...

With the news from both domestic and abroad, the previous weeks had been a roller-coaster of traffic in Maurtia. During the day, the town was mostly quiet; the usual(s) going through their day to day with newspapers in one hand and whispers in the other. It was a political powder keg and everyone and anyone had an opinion.

But tonight was different. The ghosts of an ongoing cold-war seemed to be replaced with something else. It was to be expected; a day out of the year to let loose, to forget the trouble and pass the next bottle. Maurtia turned over like a play scene in the next act. Pumpkins glowed grizzly faces on every door step, the sound of people in unfitting footwear drummed into the night. The holiday, whatever it was, seemed to let people drop their guard.

And it was a great time for business.

Inside, the bar had turned a grim sight. The usual sickly-yellows had been exchanged for deep blues and purples; the back walls were a solid black and chains linked from one end to the other, making it look like a dungeon of sorts. It lit up whenever a sweep of purple passed by and plunged back into the dark once it moved to the next corner. At the bar, Greed had gone with Kanaya's suggestion. A pair of horns were notched to his skull, coiling out from his forehead as he manned the heads. Dressed in red with the usual vest, Greed turned drink after drink out. His talons sliced fruit and garnished, whipping them down the bar or filling up a tray as they came by. At the length of the bar, all sorts of faces surged in and out. Some were painted up, others it was hard to guess where the mask ended and where the real face began. But they brought their cash, brought their rumors.

And really, he wasn't about to complain.

The homunculus plunged his claws into the caps of two bottles, tearing the metal up and out. He cleaned them off with a swipe of his thumb, letting the pair clink into a trash barrel underneath. It earned a look, maybe a little excitement with the current theme. But it was quickly forgotten as the two patrons snatched their ordered liquor and exchanged it for rumpled-up wads of cash. Greed flashed a smile, coiling his hand around to snatch the bills off the surface of the bar.

Further inside, the crowd was bustling still. Some had gone to the back for other purposes, but most of the joint was packed out front. Smoke caught in the black-lights, making it swirl as the crowd swayed one way and the next. It was a success, that was for sure. And there would be plenty of time to make out on the losses.

In the middle of another order, Greed cocked his head up. One of his own had come through the half-working speakers: "All right you ghouls and goblins, we've got a real treat for you. $100 for the last man standing - get your drinks ready folks! And remember - it's a ten-dollar buy in - " Greed ignored the rest, instead shooting off a wicked sort of grin. His teeth clicked and his nail swiped the edge a glass, cleaning the mouth of it before it was served to the next wanton patron.

No - tonight was proving worth the trouble.
