[For a last minute thing thrown by a two people who don't have much experience with birthday parties, it's all come together pretty well. Nevermind that they actually didn't have a place to hold the party until not too long ago (minor detail), but hey, that's what public parks are for. Covered seating, a hearty amount of streamers and cheap, brightly colored table cloths, food scattered around the tables--this is probably what a birthday party for a younger kid would look like.

Whatever, it's charming.

There's a man made lake and a few fire pits for cooking nearby, though it looks like meat was probably forgotten in favor of baked goods, chips, dip, pizza, soda, and beer.

If one pays attention, they may catch sight of Ellie and Skye exchanging high fives throughout the party. Well done, ladies.]

Surprise? [ Person she doesn't know very well but knows is having sex with Skye. He seems nice enough even if he... well, he's not the most eloquent of men. Still Skye clearly likes him so... here Simmons is. And here she is offering him a wrapped gift because yes, that's what every guy needs, a set of 'gag' salt and pepper shakers. But come on, she is SO proud of herself for finding them.]

[Considering that the traditional attendants of Jesse's parties are homeless smack addicts he's never met who are only looking for a free score, Simmons is practically family by comparison. He smiles at her like they've been friends for years and takes the gift.]

Should I open this now?

[ Simmons takes to change a lot quicker than most and she takes to people she likes quickly too. Give her time, Jesse. But getting a gift is good indication that she at least likes him.]

If you'd like! [ She's suppressing a smile, trying not to think just how clever her gift is.]

I always love watching somebody open a present, so...

[He tears back the wrapping and opens the box carefully. Once he sees what's inside, he lets out a surprised laugh.]

[Mr. White would love this. The thought puts a bit of a nostalgic look on his face.]

So you know your chemistry. [ She looks both impressed and surprised, but happily so. She's underestimated him quite a bit it seems.]

[When he glances up, he looks for a second like he's been caught red-handed. He backtracks quickly:]

[ Her brow furrows for a moment, confused. Why would he lie about knowing chemistry? It's certainly not a point of shame. And he has to know a bit of he knows the chemical formulas.

She offers him a suspicious smile before nodding.] Of course. Happy birthday.

[Maybe he just doesn't wanna seem like a nerd, Simmons. He gives her a tense smile in return before closing the box back up and turning to set it on the gift table.]

So, hey, um - did you still wanna run those tests on me or whatever?

[He will distract and seduce her ~with science~.]

[ She's not used to being around people who don't embrace the things they know, that don't show off in some way or another. Everyone in SHIELD is proud of their know-how and mad skills.

She tries to shake it off but she's chalking it up as peculiar to be sure.]

Anyway, he's a really famous mutant. He runs a school for imPorts here. Specializes in training kids how to use their powers along with all the regular school stuff.

Nothing like that. No Hulks, no gods, no superheroes. Just regular old humans.

Most of the 'superheroes' are just humans as well, just with certain... additions.
