[For a last minute thing thrown by a two people who don't have much experience with birthday parties, it's all come together pretty well. Nevermind that they actually didn't have a place to hold the party until not too long ago (minor detail), but hey, that's what public parks are for. Covered seating, a hearty amount of streamers and cheap, brightly colored table cloths, food scattered around the tables--this is probably what a birthday party for a younger kid would look like.

Whatever, it's charming.

There's a man made lake and a few fire pits for cooking nearby, though it looks like meat was probably forgotten in favor of baked goods, chips, dip, pizza, soda, and beer.

If one pays attention, they may catch sight of Ellie and Skye exchanging high fives throughout the party. Well done, ladies.]

No one was sure? [It's not that surprising. It's only recently that Ellie's realized that her birthday wasn't just some guess. Marlene would have made sure it was the right date.]

Nah. I was an orphanage drop. Anyway, what does it matter if it's off by a few days? It's just a date.

I'd have multiple birthdays if it meant I got cake. [Though...] Pretty cake for one of them, at least.

You know, the great thing about earning your own money from a part time job is that you can spend it on whatever you want. It doesn't have to be your birthday for you to get cake, you know that, right?

Joel would probably not be all that happy with me spending my money on cake. He's always [she stifles a burp] worried I'm gonna make myself sick.

He needs to learn to lighten up. How else are you going to learn the meaning of "everything in moderation"?

He's just trying to take care of me. [She shrugs.]

I know. And... it's sweet, but... you're a teenager. And pretty soon you're gonna be an adult. You should be getting to make your own decisions. Bad ones, as well as good ones. That's part of the learning process and growing up.

[Ellie is already pretty sure she's more adult than some of the people here.]

Even when there's puke all over the bathroom?
