[For a last minute thing thrown by a two people who don't have much experience with birthday parties, it's all come together pretty well. Nevermind that they actually didn't have a place to hold the party until not too long ago (minor detail), but hey, that's what public parks are for. Covered seating, a hearty amount of streamers and cheap, brightly colored table cloths, food scattered around the tables--this is probably what a birthday party for a younger kid would look like.

Whatever, it's charming.

There's a man made lake and a few fire pits for cooking nearby, though it looks like meat was probably forgotten in favor of baked goods, chips, dip, pizza, soda, and beer.

If one pays attention, they may catch sight of Ellie and Skye exchanging high fives throughout the party. Well done, ladies.]

Well geez, if you're that hard up we can always turn the car around, go back home, return to plan A...

[It's a bluff, of course. There's no way they're not going to this damn party.]

Or, you know, we could just park somewhere...

[He is the devil. He throws a little smirk at her as he takes the turn.]

[hackitude]

Ew. This thing doesn't even have a roof.

[Also, they're on a SCHEDULE!!]

[hostage]

And..?

[Whyever would they be on a schedule?]

- What about that spot over there?

[For parking. Not for parking. He's not sure where they're supposed to be.]

[hackitude]

Uh, how about: and I don't want other people seeing my butt in the air, for starters? It's a very private butt, thank you very much. For Jesses only.

Over there's fine.

[hostage]

Niiiice. VIP access to Skye's butt.

[Like, is he not the most romantic? He pulls into the space and switches the engine off, then turns to Skye. Time for her to lead the way.]

[hackitude]

That's right.

[Skye hops out of the car and strolls onto the lush green grass before them-- the picnic area isn't far from where they've parked. Pretty much just around the bend in the pathway, really.]

[Jesse climbs out and jogs around the car until he's caught up with her, sneaking an arm around her waist as he walks beside her. He's pretty much on the lookout now, and when they round the corner and he catches sight of the colorful streamers up ahead, he lets out a laugh.]

Ohhhhh my god, what'd you do?

[hackitude]

I told you: street art.

[On the pathway just in front of the undercover pavilion are some terrible chalk drawings that look not dissimilar to this. A FOR EFFORT, RIGHT?]

[hostage]

[More like A++++... Jesse slaps his free hand over his mouth, looking over everything as they approach the picnic area, and he shakes his head in disbelief.]

[hackitude]

Sorry it's a little... uh, middle school. I figured it wasn't right for it to be a booze party with Ellie around and you not being able to get drunk...

[hostage]

[He gives a slight shake of his head, whispering:]

Don't be sorry about anything.

[He's deeply, deeply touched.]

I was planning on video games too, but none of us actually live in our own house, and I couldn't figure out a way to bring a television outdoors...

Anyway. Um. Surprise! [Like a whole two minutes after everyone else said it.]

Happy birthday, Jesse.

[hostage]

[He looks like he wants to kiss her, but he doesn't want to embarrass her in front of people, so he gives her waist a light squeeze instead.]

It's perfect. It's really perfect, Skye. You're incredible.

[hackitude]

... Good. I'm glad you like it.

[She sort of pushes him forward a little, gently.]
