Wen Ning can control his own energy if Wei Wuxian can't manage it. It's part of him, after all. Without another demonic cultivator around during the process to mess things up for them he has a lot of faith in his friend's abilities. He's also always been very good at breaking him out of any negative state he might in up in.

There's no one else here who can offer what he can offer energy-wise. It's the best bet for both of them, since it can work toward his own training as well. He smiles, hoping to put Wei Wuxian at least somewhat at ease.
