WHEN: Fifteen minutes after this.
WHAT: Wally pestered Karen as he usually does, and ended up opening up to her. She decided to take him out for food, because meals heal. They meet for the first time face-to-face! ...wow all their stuff has been network what the h e c k
WARNINGS: NONE PROBABLY

[There's not a whole lot that cures his agitation like sprinting alongside a highway at a few hundred miles an hour. It's raining up in New York by the time he gets there, but it's not like he's out in it long enough to get truly soaked and he has his coat anyway, which he leaves at the door.

Whoa, fancy place. Wally whistles a little bit as he searches for Karen, but it doesn't look like she's arrived yet. He checks his watch and grins. Heh. Twelve minutes. Damn, he's good. Instead he has a seat nearby and pulls up Fruit Ninja on his phone to occupy his attention for the next three minutes until she arrives.]

[ Wally might be Kid Flash for now, but someday he's going to be the Flash: the fastest man alive. She may also have superspeed, but she also doesn't utilize it at its fullest power. Karen prefers not to exert any more extra power than she usually does unless absolutely necessary.

So she arrives four minutes after Wally (she landed in an alleyway further away from the shop to avoid being seen), ducking inside the restaurant to avoid the rain, dressed in a coat and hat covering her hair. She spots Wally immediately. ]

Of course it had to rain on my way over.

What, can't you dodge the raindrops or someth- [Holy crap, she's insanely pretty in person. Not that she's not pretty over the comm, but like...TV versus real life and all that. Wally was not wrong when he told Conner that his cousin was smokin' hot. That is also an amazing rack, but somehow Wally figures that she won't like him saying so (maybe all those times she told him to STOP HITTING ON HER because it was weird) so he wisely zips his lip on that.

She's also a lot taller than he thought she would be, and he's kind of embarrassed because now more than ever he feels like a kid next to her. She's definitely Justice League material; members, or ex-members or past members or whatever are always larger than life in person. Except for Barry. And Ollie, but nobody thinks Ollie is cool except for Artemis and she's weird.]

...uh, I mean, because I can. I only let them hit me this time because I felt bad for them. [He shoves his phone into his pocket as he stands up. Man, this place is authentic, they even have to take off their shoes before stepping into the main seating area (which leaves him feeling a little vulnerable but whatever).]

[ Wally has wised up quickly in her presence; any word about her chest would have sent him flying out the door via a boot to the butt.

She rolls her eyes, slightly exasperated by how he stumbles over his words and oh so smoothly catches himself. She's fully aware of the effect she has on men and hormonal teenage boys. Back in her world, Wally was pretty good at earning her ire and threats. ]

How generous of you.

[ She removes her shoes and leaves them toward the side where the employee points her, then she holds up two fingers to indicate she only needs a table for herself and Wally.

She follows the young woman, looking over her shoulder quickly to make sure Wally's removed his shoes before stepping into the seating area. Once they're assigned a table, not too far from the window, but not as close either, she plops down with a quiet sigh. ]

I miss Manhattan sometimes. The energy, you know?

You live here back home? [Wally absolutely does not kneel on the cushion, opting to sit cross-legged instead. He looks around, tapping his fingers on the table with nervous energy.] Everything's so close together and stacked on top of one another. Freaks me out.

Have a great view of the park from my apartment.

[ Such a lovely apartment she got at a great price, too. She misses the dining/living room area she put together with Atlee's help and the cozy, homey feel it had to it when she's over.

... Great, now she misses Atlee. She squashes that feeling. ]

Riding the train is a pain during morning and lunch hours, but you get used to it after some time.

Where are you and [ a slight pause ] Dick living?

[Wally tries to picture Power Girl riding a train and can't quite picture it.]

Some hole in the wall off-site of the military housing. [He shrugs a shoulder and leans back as their waiter brings them water and takes their drink orders.] Definitely no park view, but at least there's no train to worry about. If you miss it, how come you don't just move back here?

[ A waitress comes by with two menus, placing each neatly before Wally and Karen. Karen's wearing a polka-dotted, long sleeved shirt that conceals her tattoo, so the waitress only beams and walks off instead of lingering, unaware two imPorts have come all the way to New York for sushi. ]

One: it's expensive. Two: I've already made my plans for De Chima and three: it'd be kinda weird being that far from other imPorts.

[ She enjoys socializing with regular people, but imPorts as a whole she feels some slight connection to.

Being universally displaced and all. ]

Yeah...I mean, it's weird, right? [Wally fiddles with his straw wrapper, folding it up in a pattern.] The whole thing about imPorts. I mean, in Heropa it's almost like we're tourist attractions, but I've been up to Maurita Falls and half of the people there looked like they would've liked to take me down a dark alley. You'd think all the military cities would just have people to wanna be around imPorts, but I guess not.

[As for everyone else across the world, it's just strange. And it's not like Wally is unused to being stared at, but people at least recognize the symbol on the chest of his uniform even if they don't know who he is.]

I mean, just all this stuff about the Hornets and everything...

Maurtia Falls strikes me as seedy. Not sure what the appeal is. The canal's noisy.

[ She pulls a face as she lifts her menu. ]

If they ever show their faces I'm gonna knock their teeth out.

[ It was bad enough to have a whole monorail collapse on her, but the number of people who could have been killed was alarmingly high. Miraculously, people were only hurt and none too bad. ]

What, the Hornets? [Wally rests his chin in his hand, elbow on the table. He'd glanced at the menu but there weren't any prices next to anything, so he'll just unabashedly ask for ten of the cheapest dinner they've got.] They really exist?

No idea, honestly. Nobody else seems to know either.

[ She sighs aloud. ]

But if it's them who were responsible for the monorail, they have a lot to answer for, or whoever it was.

Whoa...so you were there? When they blew the monorail? [Wally taps his straw into his glass.]

[ Karen winces recalling the rubble and monorail that had struck and buried her for a while. ]

It was not a pleasant experience.

Sorry. Didn't know it was that bad. [Wally just assumed she was first response, but maybe it was more than that. It's hard to remember that League members are human too, who get frightened or overwhelmed. They're just such steady fixtures that sometimes they don't even seem human.

Which, as Wally understands it, is the point. And it's something he'll have to grow into and accept if he wants to be a part of the League someday.]

Don't worry about it; I've been hit with worse. A monorail's got nothing on Black Adam and Superboy-Prime.

[ She keeps her voice low so it isn't easy to eavesdrop on the two imPorts. ]

You got anything on these Hornets? Nonah locals call them an urban myth.

I don't really have anything. I mean, there's tons of tabloids and people are either really shifty or they don't think they exist either- I mean, it's nuts, right? There's no way a gang can be that discreet. It's just not possible. Unless they're like some global spy group or something.

[ She runs a finger down her menu, finally deciding on her selection before placing it neatly back down and waiting for the waitress to return.

Her brows pinch together. ]

Either they're a lot more organized than we give them credit for or we're looking for the wrong people.

The description was people with yellow hoodies? How many dastardly groups wear yellow?

Does seem sorta out there. [The waitress comes to take their orders; gives Wally a wide-eyed look when he makes his but nothing more than that. She's good. Their conversation gets shelved until she's far enough away and Wally turns back to Karen.] I know someone who did some investigating on her own. She might know more about it, so I'll ask her when I get the chance.

Hope she's found something.

It definitely isn't sitting right with me.

[Robin is already probably already working himself into the ground with other things, if KF knows him at all. Which he does. This is just something Wally wants to look into, for his own sake; it doesn't have anything to do with their overall situation.

Maybe he should just handle it himself.]

Do you wanna investigate with me?

[ Karen is quiet for a moment, regarding Wally with renewed curiosity.

She didn't actually know him as a kid or teenager. Wally was already a young man when they met and he hadn't reached his current level of maturity at the time, but he had always had a good heart, despite trying to (and successfully) get a rise out of her. ]

I'm game. Where do you want to start?

[Wally blinks before resting his chin in his hand. Hmm. He's the smart 'how do I build one of these, what is this chemical formula' guy, but he's usually not the plan guy. Unless they need a dumb plan.] I can follow up on my friend in Nonah. If she's got anything then we can chase down those leads, but otherwise I think the only way we're gonna get anywhere is by...probably making ourselves obvious. Fighting crime in Nonah, being really showboat-y about it. That might lure them out.

Can do. I can lift trucks, remember?

[ Doesn't get any showier than that, she thinks. ]

Who is it looking into these Hornets?

[er about that] Could we just call her a mysterious benefactor? [He's not sure if Karen knows about what Annie did, but it was a huge public confession. She might not be okay with working on Annie's intel, but...

Wally sighs.] It's um. Annie. Annie Leonhart. Dunno if you know her...

[ There's definitely a brief pause on her end. ]

That Annie?
