[ The first thing Carol does is fly to Louisiana, try to find Maria and Monica. They're not there. Neither is Fury; nowhere to be found. Seems this really is another universe. Then, she tries leaving Earth's atmosphere. She gets as far as the moon before her powers fizzle out and she comes plummeting back down to Earth. She catches herself about fifty feet above the ground, adjusting her momentum and coming down to land more gracefully... instead of in a crater. Looks like she's stuck here. Well, time to explore whatever city she's just landed in. Carol lights up like a light bulb again and starts flying over the city, getting a good look at things from above. She comes down when she spies a food truck selling tacos. Flying across the country and to the moon and back is hard work on an empty stomach... ]

[ It's been... a while, since Carol so openly flirted with someone. Not since her boot camp days, bringing dates to Pancho's for some pool and karaoke. At least, she thinks this counts as flirting. She means it as flirting, she's pretty sure. It's a little more intense than Carol is used to, but she can handle a little intensity.

In any event, it'll be nice to have a friend here who doesn't know her future or alternate version self. Someone who knows Carol for Carol, not for all the great deeds she has yet to do.

Asking around for the best gym to suit their needs, Carol proposes they meet at Dawn of the Delts in Maurtia Falls. She just has to stop by a department store on the way to pick out some good workout clothes. Which is how she finds herself strolling in twenty minutes late, decked out in new leggings and a tank top over a sports bra. ]

Hey, [ She says by way of apology for being late. ] Been waiting long?

[ Eventually, Carol finds her way to the house she's been assigned. It's very different from living in her apartment on Hala, but maybe somewhat similar to living with Maria and Monica. Sharing a living space is something she can do, for sure. Just give her time to relax into it. She's not a bad housemate... She picks up after herself, and always washes her dishes after cooking. If someone walks in on her in the kitchen, she might even offer to make a little bit extra for them. ]

You hungry? I'm making jambalaya.

Thanks. [ Carol takes the rope and begins dragging the unconscious forms of the robbers together so she can tie them into one big bundle. As she does so, she strikes up a conversation with the boy. ]

So, Adam. I take it from your accent that you're not from around here.

[ Jaime's strolling back in from work, still in his jumpsuit - emblazoned as always with his garage's log - and just now taking off his motorcycle helmet and shaking out his hair when he sees a mystery woman standing in the kitchen. On the plus side, she seems friendly, and the kitchen smells good.

On the negative side, Khaji immediately begins to shriek. He winces a little, smacking the side of his head. Shut up, is what he's trying to tell him. It doesn't work as well as he'd like, but he's not going to start talking to Khaji in front of a stranger, open identity or not. It's just rude. And not a very good impression. ]

Um...

[ Danger, Khaji is chanting. Danger, danger, danger. God, it's like the Green Lanterns all over again. ]

Hi. That's nice of you. Usually when we get new housemates, I'm the one offering food. You just got here, right?

[ He knows she did. He's pretty sure Khaji would have detected her before now otherwise. ]

[ If Carol notices the weird way her new housemate is reacting to her presence, she doesn't say anything. Instead, she just gives her food one more stir, making sure it's not going to burn if she looks away for a moment, then puts the spoon down and wipes her hands on a dish towel, turning to offer a clean hand to the new guy for a shake. ]

Right. Just ported in yesterday. [ Weird lingo, but she's picking it up pretty quickly. ] Name's Carol, Carol Danvers.

[ Isn't it so convenient? Just a straight up long, new-looking rope, just there in the alley right next to the bank?

He watches her tie the robbers up, feeling as if they're in one of those old super-hero cartoons.]

No. [ A pause, but he considers:] You're not, either. You have powers.

That I do.

[ She finishes tying a big old knot to keep the robbers tied together, and grabs the rope with one hand, lighting up again and rising into the sky, pulling the bundle with her. ]

But I'm still American. You're, what, English?

[perfectlyhuman]

[ He watches, amazed, grinning bright. ]

Yeah, I'm from Tadfield.

Are we taking them to jail?

[Gabby catches sight of Captain Marvel when she's in the sky. It takes some squinting to see if she's got the right glowy flying lady, but... it's definitely her.]

HEY, CAPTAIN MARVEL!!

[She starts running after her, using her powerful Wolverine tracking abilities of "following the bright light" to keep track of her until she lands. She keeps sprinting, skidding to a stop in front of the food truck.]

Hey, Captain-- TACOS!!

[That might be even cooler than Captain Marvel. Healing as much as she does takes energy!]

[ Khaji isn't shutting up, necessarily, but now that the initial wave of concern has passed, he's finally managed to start tuning him out. He shakes her hand right back, offering her a polite smile. He was taught his manners after all. ]

Nice to meet you -- Ms. Danvers? Carol? You'll have to tell me what you prefer.

[ Normally he just goes straight for people's first names these days, but the honorific had just come out. Something about the way that she arrived in a new dimension and immediately set to making dinner for the whole household. There's some seriously professional energy there. ]

I'm Jaime. Reyes. [ Jaime, on the other hand, couldn't possibly be projecting the type of person who goes by his first name and first name alone any harder. ]

It's nice to meet you. You seem, um, pretty comfortable with the whole suddenly-transported-into-a-new-universe deal.

( philippa absolutely didn't come that prepared, dressing in whatever it is she already had on (a hell of a lot of leather) before getting directions to the gym. the directions mean that she's not there all too long before carol arrives but minutes enough for her to start wandering around a little )

I was worried you had chickened out.

( she wasn't. but she's glad that the girl has the action to go with her fighting talk )

[ Also never heard of, but that's sort of beside the point. ]

We're taking them to the police station. And then the police will take them to jail.

Carol's fine. [ Her handshake is firm, her palm somewhat calloused. When it's over, Carol shrugs, heading back to the stove to keep attending to her meal. ]

Not gonna lie, it's throwing me for a bit of a loop. But I've already figured out that there's no flying away from this Earth, so I may as well learn to live on it.

[ Carol's just paying for her tacos when a small girl comes running up to the truck. ]

"Captain Tacos"... That's a new one.

[usaf]

I never chicken out. Of anything.

[ She grins an unbearably cocky grin and leads the way to an area where the two of them can spar, with padded mats on the ground and a wall of mirrors to the side. ]

So. How do you want to do this?

[emperysse]

You told me what you can do. I want to see it.

( she just doesn't plan on fighting just yet. not until she knows what she's up against )

If that was real.

[ Carol exhales a small laugh. ] Easy enough.

[ From her feet, rising to the top of her head, she starts to emanate a bright whitish-yellow glow. Her hair stands on end, and she rises to hover a foot or so off the ground. ]

Better not show off the photon blasts in here. Don't want to be charged with property damage on my first week in town.

[emperysse]

( well, shit. that's certainly something and philippa can't help but look very intrigued by it )

And you're human?

( she looked it. was this some species she'd not encountered before? )

Has a good ring, though, doesn't it? [She starts digging through her pockets for taco money. She probably has enough.] How much for everything in a taco shell?

[ It's clear this girl knows some version of Carol. Unless the "Captain" anything is a very strong coincidence. Carol wants to find out more, and to her that's worth the price of a taco. ]

This time's on me. [ To the food truck worker: ] Add hers to my order.

[ Then back to the little girl, arms crossed. ]

So... Future or alternate universe?

Alternate universe, probably, though you've been around and Captain Marvel a lot longer than me, so I guess it could be either? I'm from Earth 616. I'm Honey Badger.

[She doesn't actually have much of a secret identity, but Captain Marvel's so cool and she wants her to think Gabby's cool too. With her cool codename.]

The funny thing is that Carol has heard of 616, but from someone not from 616

[ Carol recognizes the code number from what Mysterio told her. Supposedly that's the world he traveled to. The one in Carol's own personal future. ]

Interesting...

[ The food truck worker serves up their order, and Carol takes it, tipping them, then hands the girl her Everything taco. ]

Here you go, Honey Badger. C'mon, walk and eat with me?

[ He's out and about in Heropa browsing food truck selections. Nate was thinking that for the wedding, catering could be done through an assortment of food trucks. Tacos, burgers, nachos, all kinds of good comfort food. He hasn't brought it up with Elena just yet but he will, once he sorts out which ones will agree to the event.

Catching the glow from the corner of his eye, of course his mind goes to Elena. She lights up the same way, she can fly. But when he turns to face the woman, his brows shoot up. Nope, that's definitely not his wife-to-be. ]

That's pretty neat. You're the uh, the second person I know who can fly and light up like that.

Heropa #003

Becks has been doing the best she can at this whole... 'settling in' thing. There's been a lot to unpack from waking up here. A lot. But she's not the kind of girl to let herself get too down, no matter how much sense it might make for her to do just that. She will knock herself through whatever negativity that tries to take her under and swallow her whole.

She hasn't been around people that weren't part of her blogger team in.... awhile, but she's not all that unsociable. So, once she's gotten a little bit of her room sorted out, has gotten the basics-plus version of this place from the Masons, and has done a little bit of her own research back on the network, she wanders her way downstairs to grab something to eat, only to find someone else already in the kitchen. And making offers! "Well, who am I to turn down food?" She smirks a little and stares at the cabinets for a moment, "Any clue where the bowls are in here?" she asks, glancing back over her shoulder at the other woman.

[ Most people haven't been to Tadfield. It's a pretty small place, very quaint, but great weather for the last decade. Some would even say it's been perfect.]

You think they'll give us medals? [ He says it half jokingly, half hopefully, full of ideas from super hero cartoons and comics.]

[ Carol starts flying forward, carrying the bundled up robbers with her, at a slow enough pace that Adam can follow. ]

Dunno. I've never exactly done the whole 'citizen's arrest' thing before.

Well, that's a productive way of looking at it.

[ And certainly contributes to the idea that she's taking it in stride; people who don't tend not to just go oh well, guess that's that! ]

So... you're from a universe where space travel's pretty common, huh?
