WHO: Rua, Ruka
WHERE: De Chima
WHEN: June 20th
WHAT: Birthday(s).
WARNINGS: Emotions, gifts, possibly cake?
The nice thing about being twins with someone was that it was basically impossible to forget their birthday.
"....oh, crap!"
...unless you forgot your own birthday too. Which Rua was realizing halfway through the school day, punctuated by bonking his head on his locker, that he pretty much totally had done.
"How the hell did I forget both of our birthdays?!"
If he was feeling charitable to himself, he could've said that when he'd got ported in, he'd switched to a completely different calendar, so he just wasn't used to his and Ruka's birthdays sneaking up on him this much. Except he'd been ported in like two literal months ago and he checked his phone like every five seconds (he was a teenager in whatever-the-hell-current-year this was, of course he did) so he was perfectly aware he had absolutely no excuse for not knowing the date.
He thought about what he was gonna do for a few seconds. It was way too late to order something for Ruka. He had some money, both from his stipend and his job, he could buy something on the way home, he guessed. But if Ruka was home when he got home and she went straight into the Happy Birthday stuff when he got home, he wouldn't really have any time to wrap it and if he just gave her some unwrapped thing, that'd make it super obvious that he'd forgotten until the last minute.
"...wait a sec," he suddenly said as he grabbed a book out of his locker. "What am I so worried about? She's probably all busy with her...weird Ruka stuff too!" He made a dismissive gesture with his hand. "She probably forgot too!" To test his theory, he pulled out his phone and fired off a text to Ruka.
'Hey, you doin' anything tonight?'
There. Juuuuuuust vague enough to test the waters. If she said no, she wasn't doing anything, it meant she'd probably forgotten. If she said yes, she had plans, it meant she'd definitely forgotten and he was in the clear and he'd have all the time he needed to pick something out and wrap it up all pretty and crap. If she actually had remembered it was their birthday and said so...well...well then he was pretty much screwed.
"She probably didn't remember, though," he muttered under his breath as he stared at his phone.
