"It isn't too far a trek," he promised. Having ushered Connors out of his office, Chilton locked the door behind them -- better to keep the contents of his patients under some form of security, after all. With a quick wink shot at Connors (oh, Chilton was excited) the psychiatrist took another set of keys from his pocket and strolled to the bolted stairway door to the left.

The stairway led straight downwards. It was a clean, brightly light space, one that had the feeling of a place recently renovated. The stairway itself, fairly narrow, was long -- it led to a concrete barrier that was less of a "basement" and more of a "subdivided bomb shelter".

Chilton had dolled up the phrasing a bit.

The area was filled with older medical equipment, the kind no longer necessary for the patients housed above them, but still in good enough shape to not dispose of. All the equipment was, at the moment, turned off.

In the middle of the area was a stainless steel cage.
