Sure as God made black and white

WHO: Archangel veterans and other participants!
WHERE: Former site of the Angel's Rest base (previously 'Devil's Nest' bar) in Maurtia Falls
WHEN: Midnight September 12
WHAT: Ambush!
WARNINGS: Violence and NPC death. The first two prompts are open only to the five Archangel vets, the next two are open to all

A: Meeting (Archangel only)

This used to be a pretty nice bar, and then a pretty nice superhero hangout. Then SWAT kicked in the door two years ago, and in the melee it became a pretty nice ball of fire. A developer bought the property and was beginning to build something new, but the funds were 'mysteriously' misplaced as money so often is in Maurtia Falls. Today, all that's left of Archangel's base is one of the city's many sketchy abandoned construction sites: bare scaffolding, exposed steel beams, dusty floors, and ample litter.

Each of the five remaining members of Archangel received a message tonight purporting to be from someone else. However it was dressed up, however your character was convinced, the gist was the same: 'Come to the old Archangel base tonight at midnight. Second floor.'

It's the first time everyone's been gathered together in one place since the fateful night this place burned down, and the team that wanted to save Maurtia Falls ended up fighting a pitched battle against the local police. A lot has changed since then, including these five would-be heroes. One thing hasn't: Maurtia Falls is dangerous. They'll only have a few minutes to chat before things go to Hell. Considering how awkward this is, that's probably a small mercy.

B: Trap (Archangel only)

"ANGELS! PREPARE TO FALL!"

With that shout, the trap snaps shut, the product of careful planning and co-ordination by the enemy. Power nullifiers hidden throughout the building suddenly hum to life, emitting a faint blue glow through their transmission domes. Snipers crouched on surrounding rooftops start shooting through the windows on the second floor at any imPort they can get a shot at. Crooks wearing halloween masks- demons, ghouls, skeletons- charge into the ground floor waving an array of pipes, baseball bats, and machetes. Anyone trying to leave that way will have to fight their way through them. Some of them climb the stairs to join the main melee, adding their numbers to the threat.

The real threat is on the second floor though. That's where the five metahuman super-criminals who planned this scheme make their appearance, swinging (or flying, in some cases) through the windows. Asmodeus (super-speed, fire-breathing), Belial (flight, enhanced reflexes), Zagon (super-speed), Purson (fire-breathing) and Paimon (enhanced reflexes) are much more dangerous than their absurd demonic names would suggest. They are all wearing colourful armoured costumes with wholly unnecessary spikes and wings, and they all have weapons to supplement their powers. As for Archangel, not only are they surrounded and outnumbered, but now they have to face superhumans without their usual abilities: call it poetic injustice for all the criminals they punched out two years ago.

C: Turnaround (OTA)

It's impossible for this much violence to go unnoticed, even in Maurtia Falls. Perhaps that's what the criminals were counting on: a chance to make a bold, public statement of their power, showing they could eliminate five imPorts with impunity. If so, it has backfired. Not long after the first shots are fired, the police and paramedics are arriving on the scene to set up a perimeter, and SWAT is gearing up to storm the building. A call for imPort assistance has gone out as well on emergeny channels, requesting any nearby heroes to respond. The cops will follow imPort leads on how to handle this crisis.

When the rescuers make their move, they're going to find a mess of a situation in there. Dozens of armed criminals are in the mix, along with a few metahumans. Gunmen are still firing into the windows from nearby rooftops. One person is already dead, several more are injured on both sides. The glowing blue power nullifiers are the key to the situation: as long as they are active, characters won't be able to use their abilities in the building. But once they're destroyed or shut down, all imPorts will be back to full strength and any attackers still standing will surrender or try to flee. Your characters will have to choose between chasing after them, or sticking around to help the injured!

D: Aftermath (OTA)

By the time the last attacker is captured or fleeing, the former Archangel base has been trashed all over again from the superhuman battle. Flashing coloured lights flicker off the sides of the buildings and reflect off the wet streets as more emergency responders arrive to handle this mess. Thanks to luck and the efforts of the rescuers, all members of Archangel are still alive, even if most of them are worse for wear. They and other imPorts will have to hang around for a bit to give their statements on what just happened.

Captured gang members are being taken into custody, injured people are receiving treatment, and the body of Kyran Rand, aka 'Asmodeus', leader of this attack, is being processed for evidence. Given the way Maurtia Falls justice works, there's a good chance many of these captured criminals will be on the street again before long. Then again, the police helped save the day tonight, instead of doing the bidding of organized crime. Maybe some progress has been made in Maurtia Falls, despite everything. Whether that's because of or inspite of Archangel's legacy, it's impossible to say.
