[ decrypting kavinsky's conversations is like an exercise in dodging red herring after red herring. maybe 1/4th of what comes out of his mouth is meant to lead to some kind of truth, and the rest is chaotic filler.

but chilton's supposedly the expert here, so he lets it be, just offering a mild shrug instead. it's interesting, though, the prospect of what his effect on k is. good for him? he'd never thought of himself as particularly good for anyone, honestly. nor has anyone ever told him he's had any kind of positive influence on a single person.

that's deeper than he wants to consider his social ties, given he probably wouldn't speak to anyone at all if it was based on how much better he might make their life. ]
