[ Despite his saying Rose didn't have to be secretive, she still takes caution when coming up to the man's place not to be seen. It's actually something she's pretty good at. Being inconspicuous was her life until being relocated to Heropa. So she has practice. She's experienced. No one would ever even know she was here…
That is, if she were actually taking it seriously. As of right now? She is not doing that at all as she hums a quiet tune along her way. Music actually helps soothe her nerves, however, so it isn't entirely flippant. She just needs something, anything to keep her mind from being abuzz right now.
She wonders if there's surveillance. There should be, right? The woman's actually surprised there isn't any paparazzi or anything. They seem to love any chance at a story they can get (at least when she first arrived and how 'imPort shipping' was a thing). Besides, he's an important politician now and… whatnot. Somehow, it feels almost against the rules to be waltzing up to his residence like this but she has to remind herself over and over that she was invited.
There's also the possibility she's confusing 'politician' with 'celebrity' but she's. Look, most of what she's learned about people comes from TV so it's an easy mistake to make! ]
manolo
[ Meeting with other musicians isn't anything new. Rose has worked with them for years from the underground to famous household names. So she isn't nervous about meeting Manolo because he's going to release an album or might be well known, but instead nervous because he's the only one she knows so far that shares her power. Or, at least, has one similar enough to it.
She wants to learn. She wants to see for herself what it's like to have someone else's music influence her. It seems… invasive and, really, that's what worries her the most. That she's making people feel or do anything they don't want to. Rose would never subject someone to that; she understands, more than anyone, the importance of free will.
With guitar strapped on her back, she struts up to his place and knocks on the door. ]
I hope this is right…
heropa (ota)
[ It's another sunny summer day in Florida. Rose can actually be found at the beach, playing with (read: trying to keep control of) her new cute pup that she'd recently adopted. He doesn't quite yet have a name but she's definitely thinking of something good. Unlike many other patrons of the beach, she's not adorned in swimwear but instead a modest dress and a wide-brimmed hat. ]
Hey, boy! C'mon - [ The chocolate lab puppy is absolutely bursting with energy and excitement; there's so many sights and sounds! He's contently chasing seagulls, knocking over sandcastles, and just generally being a terror. ] Sorry, woah, sorry! [ -the blond keeps uttering as he knocks over something or runs between another person's feet.
She knew she should have gotten a shorter leash. ]
de chima, maurita falls (ota)
[ Despite her affinity for Florida's tropical weather, sometimes Rose just wants to head up north on her days off. Though she'll try to deny it, she absolutely loves runs through the fresh air up here. Now that she's got a new puppy she has all the more reason to. While she'd rather be in the woods, cityscapes are more familiar and comfortable so she sticks to the parks and paths there.
Her dog is happy to trundle along beside her (this time, kept on an extendable leash in case he falls behind or decides to sprint forward for whatever reason). It's a beautiful day and she's feeling good so she can't help but start to sing- ]
Sun kissed skin on my lips, thank the Lord I am here and now, here and now. Fireflies after dark. Bless your soul, we are here and now, here and now. I'm wide awake, so what's the point of dreaming when your life is great? Celebrate the feeling, celebrate the feeling! Can't complain about much these days, I believe we'll be okay. Oh oh oh oh, oh oh oh oh~
[ At the 'oh's, the puppy decides to chime in with howls of his own that cause Rose's song to peter off into laughter. The blond stops her job, trying to shush the now howling puppy. ]
Shhh, boy, shhh. You're gonna cause a scene!
no subject
And even before she knocks, Petyr is at the door -- opening it up for her with a warm smile of greeting. ]
I trust you made it over without incident. Come in, come in.
[ He steps aside to allow her entrance. ]
I have some wine if you would like a drink.
no subject
She returns his smile with one of her own. If she's nervous (she is), then she does her best not to show it. 'It'll be fine' is her mental mantra but it's doing little. ]
Yeah, no trouble here. [ She steps inside, eyes sweeping over all that she can immediately see. Huh. Not a bad place. ] Oo, wine. Fancy.
[ She won't mention most of the wine she's ever had came out of boxes... ]
no subject
[ He pours a glass for her and one for himself, bringing the chalice over and offering it to her. Not only does Rose get to taste fancy wine from a bottle, but she gets to drink it like a queen. ]
Have a seat, my lady. Make yourself comfortable. [ He leads her to the living room, gesturing toward the couch. ]
no subject
[ Hah. Hah. What a winner.
The blond would like to say her constant jabbering is just because she's anxious but... no. That's actually just the way she is. Still, she does meander her way to the couch. Rose takes a seat after setting her guitar down to the side of it and- ]
Is that a chalice? [ Color her impressed. ] Dang, this really is fancy. [ She likes it! As evident by the smile on her face. ]
no subject
Everyone always seems so surprised when I offer them a drink out of a cup like this. I would say it's a shame you have not been treated as a proper lady should be treated.
[ With a charming smile, he settles beside her -- maintaining a casual and comfortable posture, as though his entire demeanor may do wonders to calm her nerves. ]
I must say, you are a very lovely woman. The network does not do you justice.
[ So sue him. He's been here for six months without the comfort of a woman in his home. He's entitled to a little bit of flirtation, isn't he? ]
no subject
[ She takes a sip and, huh, that is actually some pretty good wine.
The blond glances uncertainly after what he says next though. Is. Is he... hitting on her??¿¿?? Every time this happens, she's still so surprised. What an odd thing. ]
Aw, shucks, I'm not all that. [ A dismissive wave of her hand accompanied by a laugh. ] Thank you though, that's very kind of you to say.
no subject
[ He casts her an amused glance before drawing in a sip of his drink. ]
Have you been working with your powers lately? Accidentally or not? You could make quite the business singing love songs and causing couples to fall more deeply in love than before.
no subject
[ Okay, yeah, he's definitely hitting on her. Not that she minds! It's just such a rare occurrence (that she actually notices it, anyway) that she. Has no idea what to do about it.
Would tossing back this wine be trashy? Probably. She'll refrain. ]
Uhm. Not really. I mean, at least not in public. [ Ah, hey, music! Something she can talk about.
Wait, what's this about love now? ]
That's a nice thought. I'd love - no pun intended - for my powers to be used for something good like that.
no subject
[ He takes a sip of his drink. ]
The sky's the limit when it comes to your ability, truth be told. That has always been the power of music -- the chance to convey all sorts of emotions. You do seem like the best person for it as well. Someone who genuinely cares and wishes to help others.
[ There was something so sweet and innocent about Rose. Even if it isn't necessarily true (how is he to know? He doesn't know her), at the very least it's a convincing act. And that is part of her draw. ]
no subject
Maybe it's a little naive. But she still wants to try. ]
So, like, thanks a lot for offering to help. I, uh. I have a hard time asking since I've kind of done things on my own for a long time now and. Yeah. [ Emotions. She's terrible at this but, hey, at least she's trying to be sincere and appreciative and... lean on someone for once instead of just. Not doing that and making everything worse. ]
(( ooc; screams, i'm sorry about the delay I lost all my open tag tabs in a computer update and am valiantly searching for them all again ))
<333 don't worry about it!
[ His hand moves in to rest lightly atop her own. An action that is a bit too familiar, but also not entirely flirtatious. These sorts of small comforts are more common place within his world. There isn't so much emphasis on personal space and all that jazz. ]
It is much easier to face a world with a friend than it is to do so alone.
[ He gives a light squeezing touch before he releases. ]
So why don't you sing for me? Unless you wish to speak more. Also, you are welcome to stick around if you wish. You do not have to put me to sleep and then flee. And perhaps it would even be better to see how long your magic lasts? If you chose to stay, make yourself at home.
[ He has all the modern amenities and his communicator, with all of his secret dealings and communications, is hidden away. You could never be too careful, even if the person you are trusting seems entirely innocent. ]
no subject
Then there's the word 'friend.' Getting out of her comfort zone indeed. ]
Nah, I think I've done enough gabbing. It's time for some song! And, yeah, don't worry. I was planning to stick around - if it was cool with you, of course - since I wanna make sure I don't, like, make you the next Sleeping Beauty or anything.
[ Wait, he might not get that reference... Oh, well! Either way, Rose is setting down her wine and picking up her guitar out its case and giving a quick tune to make sure everything is ready to go. ]
So get comfy, I guess.
no subject
Well, I do appreciate your concern. Although it would make for quite the news story if you had to find many fair maids to kiss me awake. Or even more of a story if you had to find a prince to do the same -- were it to still stick to its traditional fairy tale background.
[ Part of Petyr's quest for knowledge was reading some of the classic fairy tales that are so important to popular culture. For once, the reference is not lost on him! ]
But I am ready when you are, my lady.
no subject
Wouldn't that be something? [ But life isn't like the fairy tales, unfortunately. She's not that naive.
Rose strums her guitar once and seems to find the sound to her satisfaction. Her eyes close as she sighs then slender fingers begin to pluck the strings carefully. The notes begin to form a quiet, somber lullaby from her home country. After a few, she starts to sing in time with the song. Her voice is a light, airy mezzo-soprano that matches well with the melancholy feel of the song. ]
Mori mo iyagaru, Bon kara saki-nya. Yuki mo chiratsuku-shi, Ko mo naku-shi. Bon ga kita-tote, Nani ureshi-karo. Katabira wa nashi, Obi wa nashi. Kono ko you naku, Mori wo ba ijiru. Mori mo ichi-nichi, Yaseru-yara. Hayo-mo yuki-taya, Kono zaisho koete.
Mukou ni mieru wa, Oya no uchi. Mukou ni mieru wa, Oya no uchi.
[ Rose tries to pinpoint the point when her powers start to work like she was advised; they do, definitely, and Petyr should feel himself succumb to feelings of sleepiness before long into the song. Still, it's hard to discern... Music is something she's usually so in tune with. It just comes so natural, even this. Still. She feels something though figuring out what, exactly, is a bit more difficult. ]
no subject
But he relaxes, and that's something that becomes easier as she strums the notes delicately and starts to sing her song. What a lovely, serene voice she has -- he notes. And he may have even commented, except about part way through the first verse -- his eyelids start to grow heavier and heavier. And there's really no resisting the magic lull of her lullaby.
As she's finished, the ambassador is fast asleep on the couch beside her. ]
heropa;
Today is different though. This is a dog. A dog!!! She instantly perks up upon seeing him, and the fact that he too was quite eager to see her didn't seem to bother her. In fact, she bends down and pets him when he comes up in front of her. ]
Wow! He's so cute...!!
heropa;
Oh gosh, I'm sorry, he's just a little ball of love- [ It... doesn't seem like the woman minds, but still! Rose scoops up the puppy in her arms. He's still so full of energy that he squirms in her grasp but at least he's not bothering this stranger anymore. ]
Thank you, though! He's... still in training. Obviously.

no subject
I, uh. I haven't decided on one yet! What do you think he looks like? [ She thought 'chocolate' but that's... too obvious. Hm. ]
no subject
... But she just ends up blushing and giggling again at how cute he is. ]
I-I think you should name him based on his personality!
no subject
[ Moving back to Pearl now though, Rose asks- ]
I'm guessing you're a fellow dog lover?
no subject
Ah, Señorita Rose. It's good to finally meet you. Please, come inside!
[He gestures for her to enter the house and take a seat on the soft couch in the living room.]
Would you like something to drink? We have water, juice and I think some soda pops.
[They have alcohol too, but he's not really at liberty to offer since it technically belongs to Joaquin.]
no subject
Hey, dude. Nice to meet you too! [ He's as lively as she imagined. She wonders if that's just a musician thing though. ]
Water is fine for now, thanks! Nice place you got here, too.
no subject
I can't take all the credit, though. It was well lived-in way before I ever came to this place.
no subject
[ A realization, then. ]
I just kind of crash at my place when I need to. [ Like once a week! Being a non-human can be. Weird.
ANYWAY. ]
So, you play guitar too? How long you been playing?
no subject
[Knowing he's got a roof over his head is a comfort that's almost on par with the security of a family who will always love him.]
Me? I've been playing for as long as I can remember. My mother gave me my own guitar as soon as I was able to hold one in my arms.
no subject
Yeah, totally! And dang, that's a long time. [ She's actually been playing for about thirty years herself, but... since she doesn't look over thirty, she'll refrain from mentioning that. ] I've only been at it a few years. I can play some other stuff... but I always come back to the guitar.
[ A more serious question, now. Hopefully he doesn't mind but she's genuinely curious: ] Why do you play?
no subject
[Manolo regards her curiously.] What about you?
no subject
I play to honor someone's memory. The person who taught me everything about music is gone now... But I play to honor him and keep him alive in my heart. [ It sounds so corny, so cliche, but it's the truth. It's also the most honest she's been since arriving in this city. ] This guitar was his, actually. He gave it to me as a gift after we went our separate ways.
[ It was all she had left of him anymore. Well, that and a single picture. ]
Music helped us both during a really rough time in our lives, so... It's special to me. He was special to me. So, that's why I play. Because I know he'd want me to.
