[It's warm again, and that means swimming in the pool. Their house in Heropa has one in the backyard, and though at first Riku wasn't sure what to do with it, he'd decided to take care of it and actually use it. Through the winter, though it wasn't cold, he wouldn't consider it swimming-outside weather, either. So until recently, it had sat unused, dead leaves collecting on the cover. Today he's taken it upon himself to clean it off and get the thing running again.
Naturally, this means the pool itself can't be used for another little while. It's had a shock treatment, and though he'd like to replace the cover, so the animals won't jump in, he can't, in interest of the treatment working properly. Instead, he's just put the pigs in their house and the dog in the house. In the meantime, the vacuum is sitting dry at the edge of the pool, waiting for its turn. Riku himself is at the pool's edge too, doing some water tests. He looks like he's deep in thought.]

[With the way things are lately, Riku's felt a little inadequate. Not in his fighting skills but in his knowledge and awareness of the way this place works. A lot of things are similar to home, but a lot of things aren't -- especially regarding law and the way different regions interact with each other. It's along this train of thought that he's gone to the library. He does a lot of things just online -- it's easy to just hang out at home and click around the internet, especially in the middle of the night -- but he likes the library. It's enjoyable, in a way he can't really put a word to.
Today he's sitting at a table with a mess of books in front of him, a few tall stacks as well as a less organized pile in the middle. Some of them have bookmarks sticking out of them, and some of them are lying open, held that way by other books. The boy himself is almost hidden behind the taller of the towers, which is kind of impressive. The subjects of the books range from ones on actual laws to ones on traditions, and there are some books about the history of the country as well. He's poring over one right now that appears to be a description of locally available foods.]

[Riku goes to the Nonah Training Facility quite a lot. Not always to swim, though he does that quite frequently, too. Today he's working on hand to hand combat. Generally, he would use the Keyblade, or a similar one-handed weapon, but he doesn't like the idea of nullifiers, either. So he's been studying various forms of bare-handed combat. There are classes you can take, he's aware, but he feels like he'd rather do it on his own. This way, he can mix between different styles, too, without feeling like he's cheating or supposed to stick to one thing.
For Riku, the easiest thing is to simply use a punching bag. He doesn't necessarily like to bother somebody by dragging them over here, and this way, he doesn't have to wait for anyone, either. He can just go whenever he feels like it. There are a few hanging heavy bags, but he's using one on a stand. It's a little lighter than a traditional one and snaps back quickly when he hits it, and so he's able to work on timing out hits as well as specific moves.
He's working fairly hard and he's thinking about taking a break, but he's in the middle of counting out a set of moves, so he's decided to finish it before stopping. This particular set is twelve hits long, but that goes by pretty quick, especially when you're halfway there already.]
... ten, eleven, twelve.
[Riku stops, steps away, his bare feet quiet on the mat. That's enough for now.]

tetsuo, may 12
But here he is, waiting on the roof of a run-down, abandoned building. He'd prefer to meet somewhere less full of broken glass and trash, but he also doesn't want to do this where a bunch of people are going to see them. Walking into an evil-looking portal is alarming enough when it's just you, but when you're bringing someone else with you, that's a whole another level of alarming.
He's already wearing his own coat -- he'd used a portal to get here in the first place. The other is half-folded, hanging over his forearm. He doesn't worry about opening a door quite yet -- he'll do that when Tetsuo arrives. For now he settles on the edge of the building, in a spot with the least amount of debris, his legs hanging from the edge. For now he's just going to play around on his phone.]
no subject
THIS time. He's got ideas for this.]
Hey. You brought it?
[You can take the kid out of a gang, but you can't take the gang out of a kid. From the carefully disinterested way he asks that, there's no way he doesn't know how it comes across. Just like his entrance, that effect is nothing short of deliberate.]
no subject
I wouldn't waste your time otherwise.
[He shifts his weight, getting back to his feet. He can tell Tetsuo's trying to be intimidating, perhaps, or dramatic, or both. He can knock himself out with that one. Riku's not really impressed by drama, not after Maleficent and the Xehanorts. So he just gets up, lifting the arm with the coat hanging from it.]
I don't know that it'll fit, but it'll work, which is the main thing.
no subject
He could probably wear it, and look most likely ridiculous in it.]
You sure you don't have anything...?
[He pauses. Don't make him say smaller.]
no subject
No, but I can ask Kanaya if she'll fit it for you later.
[He might as well. A coat that'll fit Tetsuo will fit anybody around that height, right? Right.]
We can do this another time, if necessary.
no subject
[As annoying as it is, he's not turning down a chance to get to mess around in a portal just because an accessory doesn't fit. He'll deal.
And to punctuate that,he'll put it on over Kaneda's jacket. Ridiculous it is, don't you dare laugh.]
So, about that portal...
no subject
Right, then...
[He moves to the center of the roof, opening a door in front of them.]
There you go.
no subject
Since he is a little, that can't stand.]
Cool.
[He has to work to peer out from under the hood, hands lost under the sleeves. In a habitual gesture he confirms there's no pockets he can find to shove his hands in; or maybe it's displaced too far. This stupid thing... But it's not enough to keep him from standing right in front of it, psyching himself up to step through into a looming void.]
Very cool.
[Now or never. But he's not nervous about it, nah. To prove that point, he steps directly in before he can consider any downsides.]
no subject
It's kinda boring, objectively.
no subject
How far does it go? Forever?
[Instead of trying to take further steps in this stupid thing, Tetsuo tenses, and then lifts up into the air. He's thinking about maybe just going that way for a while. See what happens. drop back down..]
no subject
[He looks upward as Tetsuo lifts -- they're about eye level right now.]
You're not going to try to go off in space or something, right?
no subject
[That's not an answer, or maybe it's too much answer.]
no subject
[So does it matter?]
no subject
[HEY RIKU WANNA FIND OUT]
no subject
[This is a question born purely out of curiosity, but if Tetsuo wants to take it as a challenge, he doesn't mind.]

[... and he shoots upward at lightning speed. In the real world, it'd leave a swirl of wind or dust in his wake; here, the most he could hope for to cover his trail is possibly mist, fog, and more shadow. There may not be anything here to herald his departure.
As for him, he streaks upwards like a rocket, all his senses focused around him. He's too used to the air being generally without end; it thins over time and makes him start to reconsider his altitude after a while. All the same, he's paying attention, with a power that reacts faster than his conscious mind can.
It'll be fiiiine, right?]

Then it really is pressing in, oozing around him almost in an unsettlingly literal sense. He lets go, stopping his ascent as fast as he can, but physics propels him easily into the black morass above him. It slides around him, ominous and cool. You can't sink upwards, instinct screams at him. This makes no sense! But that's exactly what he's doing, caught in the gelatinous quicksand "ceiling".
This time, he gathers his energy and pushes away from it as hard as he can. It hardens around him at the sudden impact, locking him terrifyingly in place and only softening again when he has to take a second to refocus. WHAT?!! He can't even see a difference! It all looks the same!
His surprised yell is easily swallowed up by the darkness around him, and he doesn't try again, not sure he wants to find out if it can get in his mouth. Even though he could easily project right into the guy's mind, Tetsuo's not admitting that he's stuck in the ceiling of some shadow otherworld. He's got getting out to focus on, anyway.]

His head pounds in time with his heart, sending hot stabs of pain to counter that feeling of coldness. To his extended senses, the feeling slowly grows that this horrible coldness isn't natural. Almost like it could have been alive once, and he's caught in the corpse of a dimension-
No. Fuck that. This is fucking stupid!
It takes him a while before gradual exhaustion forces him to push out more slowly, and this time, he manages to edge forward. The ... something around him loosens, growing less dense. His lungs can fully fill again, and he has to fight down another stab of panic as he belatedly realizes he has no clue what he's breathing. The air outside that wall is the same stuff as the wall.
He can tell. All it does is thin from a black, all encompassing something to a black, all encompassing something he'd mistaken for nothing.
It can't have been more than a minute or two in that awful ceiling, but it felt like a lot longer. He finally pulls free enough for gravity to reappear in the right orientation-
Oh. Right. He'd gone up. He'd gotten so disoriented that all his reference points vanished. Now he's in freefall, fighting to get his spinning head to focus enough to catch himself. He keeps managing it for a second, but focus is so hard.
At least if he dies, his brain muses idly, he's not going to die in a ceiling...
Fortunately for Riku, he's gone straight up and straight down, only slowing enough here or there to not reach any dangerous velocity. Unfortunately for Tetsuo, he's not getting hold of himself fast enough to avoid embarrassment.]
no subject
Riku's mouth drops open, and he racks his brains quickly for a power of his own he might be able to use to keep Tetsuo from hitting the ground. There isn't one, though -- the shield he can produce is only good as far as protecting himself, and though he could catch him in it, it'd be the same as if he were to just reach the ground itself. So he does the dumb thing (in regards to himself) and moves to catch him. He's not certain he can actually do it -- he'd be able to pick Tetsuo up quite easily, certainly -- but the speed at which he's falling...
He'd hate himself if he didn't at least try, though, so he braces himself and waits.]
no subject
He only has seconds left to really catch himself, shaking the last of that hideous creeping feeling out of his mind. But by then, he's too close. He can't slow his descent fast enough! He gets slower, slower, twisting around to see the ground and ending up in a lazy spin.
The fog clears from his head, leaving angry, buzzing feedback all the rest of the way down. He's not going fast enough that the fall would kill him, but it's going to hurt either way. His control is usually good, but here, where there's nothing to even tell him where 'upright' is until he's falling, no clue where the ground is, just endless darkness and fear--
Suddenly, Riku's right below him. He only sees it a split second before he's turned back around again. Great. He'd at least hoped that he wouldn't see this-
And then, contact.]
no subject
And then he does -- the impact of Tetsuo's body on his, moving that fast, is enough that he's knocked off his feet, and the shield fizzles out as his concentration breaks. Riku finds himself flat on his back, on the bottom of the heap, but he's unharmed, if a little jostled. He groans quietly -- he hit his head on the dirt.
Sitting up enough to prop himself up on his elbows, he eyeballs Tetsuo, curious now.]
Don't die, [he says stupidly.] I won't be able to explain that.
no subject
I'm fine...
no subject
Okay. [His voice is quiet. He's not going to challenge him, even though he's pretty sure Tetsuo isn't completely Fine.] Are you hurt?
