[ He's a lot more terse than his previous incarnation, too. She wrinkles the bridge of her nose a little, unsure how to feel about it just yet. ]

It's not their fault.

[ A beat. That very day she did meet the Doctor she had had an... interesting conversation with someone about time travel. ]

Actually, that reminds me... I've got a question myself.

[ He can't help but grin a little at that, giving Karen a small nod. ]

How enterprising! Questions are good, questions in a setting where nobody's shooting at us is better. Ask away.

Hypothetical question, but what happens if you prevent someone from dying when they were supposed to in a specific timeline?

[ Actual answer: both Rose and the Doctor did this in canon. Rose broke everything for a little bit, the Doctor broke everything for a LOT BIT. Needless to say, Karen isn't gonna get that answer. ]

It depends on the specific circumstances of their death. How'd it happen?

[ Subtlety is lost on the man. ]

[ Time travelers exist in her world and manage not to screw up the timelines, but they're the experts. Bats from Gotham? Not so much. ]

I don't actually know. [ She won't say. ] But if someone were... destined, or whatever you call it, for an untimely passing that someone else from the future knew about and told them to prevent it, do you think there would be negative repercussions?

It depends, [ the Doctor simply answers. And here he's a bit cagey, a bit careful, obviously choosing his words deliberately. ] Most of the time, there would be. Whether it's creating a paradox, them trying to prevent their own deaths, or time getting warped even further, something will happen. And most of the time, that something isn't good.

I hate to say this, but the best thing is to simply let it happen.

[ And he knows how cold-hearted that sounds. But dammit, he just went through the same thing, trying to save Clara, to keep her from dying, by any means necessary. But he went too far. He broke his own rules, he let that duty of care override his senses. He doubt Karen will go as far as he did. But he still needs to be cautious. ]

sorry for the late tag! was moving.

[ She doesn't pick up on the caginess too much, but if it's due to more personal reasons she isn't about to pry, just as how she isn't going to reveal it was Dick who was intent on saving Wally, timeline be damned. ]

I figured. I've seen enough time travel movies.

[ Fiction or not, nothing good seemed to come of it. ]

no worries! c:

[ He can't help but perk up a little bit at 'enough time travel movies' because ooh, this could be a chance to help educate her further. ]

For what it's worth, Bill and Ted's the best.

[ at least, in his personal tastes, Bill & Ted's the best. ]

Never seen that one all the way through.

[ She chuckles lightly, wondering if she could handle that sort of comedy anymore. ]

Ever seen the 2002 version of The Time Machine? That movie surprisingly convinces you not to mess with time despite being not that great.

You know, I don't think I've seen that one! I've read the book, of course, might have accidentally inspired H.G. Wells about it, but I haven't seen that movie. I'll put it on the to-do list.

I'd say go in with low standards. It's not fantastic...

[ A shrug. ]

I can deal with 'not fantastic'. In fact, I'm perfectly fine with 'not fantastic.' I've seen plenty of not fantastic things, might as well add another!

[ A small smile. ]

Don't say I didn't warn you.

Is your panel continuing throughout the convention, by the way?

It'll go on and off again. I want to walk around and see what's what, of course—can't do that if I'm stuck in a panel
boobwindow: it's going right up your ass and not in a sexy way (see this finger?)

[personal profile] boobwindow 2016-05-08 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
I'll be sure to stop before this con is over then.

If you've got a question, I'll make a specific effort to call on you before anybody else.
