[ If he were telling this story to Kasumi proper, she might react differently; she might offer a pat on his shoulder or express concern for the Doctor and ask if he'd like to talk about it more to air out those feelings. Still, her expression softens into one of sympathy while she listens before he changes the subject, at which point she looks curious. ]

I've never heard of Chumblies. What are Chumblies? Aliens?

[ Oh, he just can't help but grin at that because he gets to talk about silly looking aliens! That's the Doctor's bread and butter. ]

Robots! Tiny little robot drones that helped out the Rills—they're the aliens, by the way. Vicki, Stephen and I ran into them when we landed on an alien planet.

[ And the Doctor just moves his hands as he talks, trying to approximate a picture. ] They've got these sort of ring things, one on top of the other, like a three-layered cake.

[ She tilts her head at him, puzzled. She's basically imagining a robot cake, and supposes it only stands to reason that cute robots get cute names. Someday, Kasumi (proper) and the Doctor will have to compare notes on aliens robots. Do they even have cute aliens?

Oh, right. The volus. As for cute robots... the geth are giant flashlights. Maybe that's a little cute. ]

Like a cake, huh? They sound super cute. What can they do?

[ His cute aliens are usually cute girls in alien facepaint. Still counts! As for her question... ]

Well, they helped the Rills out by acting as translators. They also served in a sort of probe capacity. Rills can't metabolize oxygen, send the Chumblies out to scout, report back with the findings.

I'm sorry, it's just--Chumblies. It's such a silly name for anything. I love it.

Isn't it though? [ He just matches that chuckle with a small little smile. ] It's a silly name and they look ridiculous, it's things like that which make space travel worth it.

Hypothetically speaking, if you could go to space, to anywhere in the universe, what's the sort of place you'd visit first?

Uhh... Somewhere colder? Like, definitely not a tropical planet or one that's practically on fire...?

[ She's trying! And true enough, Kasumi does prefer cooler than hotter! ]

In that case, I'd take you to the Ood Sphere. Entirely icy, cold for so long that they've got cities and buildings made out of ice. Snow as far as the eye can see.

[ She tilts her head curiously. ]

Huh... You mean like igloos, but a whole city of them?

Not in the slightest! Picture...picture a building, like a store or a government office, but made of ice. Walls are ice, floors are ice, support beams are ice, a planet cold enough that you could sculpt an entire building out of ice and not have it melt.

Oh, the Ood are entirely friendly. A little frigid at times, but that's more of a species trait than anything else.
