[ She can't help but laugh a little bit, both at herself as part of the act, and at Jaime for downplaying the kind of role he occupies in Shepard's life. He gifted the guy a motorcycle for Christmas, for god's sake. ]

Well... okay, you caught me. I'm actually a really big fan of Shepard's.

[ And that much actually comes across more genuinely than as a put-on act; Kasumi has always really been a big fan of Shepard's. ]

I dunno why you'd bother lying at a convention of all places... and while you're dressed as him. You don't exactly dress up as someone you don't really like.

[He doesn't know a whole lot about cosplay, this boy, and doesn't realize that a lot of the people here are doing so because these guys have really cool costumes.]

So... why are you such a big fan?

Well... I don't want to come off too strongly, you know?

[ aka, something Kasumi Goto would never say. ]

Do I need to explain? So many of his crew members look up to him. He must take really good care of them if they trust him so much.

[ That, on the other hand, is something Kasumi Goto would absolutely say. ]

Says you while you're cosplaying, [he says, grinning, but he quickly seizes onto the change in subject, veering it a little more closely to what he's really interested in.]

Any fan of his should be a fan of his crew too. If you know they look up to him, then you've done your research. [Which is to say, don't feign ignorance about his crew. Innocently, he asks,] You got any favourites?

[ Kasumi's actual answer: Greek statue Jacob Taylor or actual slab of beef James Vega (for purely aesthetic reasons) or the cutest engineer ever, Tali. But only one of those three are present here, and if she answered with Jacob she might as well out herself right now. So... ]

Well... Samara's really cool, too. She's pretty mysterious, and she's so beautiful.

[ Which isn't a lie, necessarily. They are all her favorites, really. ]

Huh. I don't know her all that well, honestly. The only ones I got really tight with are Kaidan and Kasumi.

[He meant to only say Kasumi, see if he could catch her in a lie, but... well, even when he's trying to be sneaky, he can't deny that he and Kaidan are as close as they could ever be. It seemed wrong just to leave him out.]

They say Kasumi's really pretty too -- underneath that hood, I mean.

[ She sees what you are doing Jaime and don't you dare. ]

Kasumi? Isn't that the lady who wears a hood all the time?

[ She shrugs, oh so dismissively. ] I 'unno. Isn't it kind of weird that she covers up like that? She could have a Medusa head under there...

[khajidont]

Nah. I got a feeling that if she really had snakes for hair, she'd roll with it instead of covering it up. Not a bad theory, though.

[He shoves his hands in his pockets, watching her shrug dismissively, and thinks to himself: aha. What Shepard fan would dismiss the cool hooded lady on his crew? Nobody, that's who.

At least nobody who doesn't want into Shep's pants and sees Kasumi as an obstruction.]

She's not as public as the rest of them, but she's nice underneath all that mystery, y'know.

[And the best thing about this? He'd say it even if he didn't think this was Kasumi.]

[ What the hell, Jaime, he's going to make her blush with this sincerity. Because, for one, she would totally rock snake hair and would indeed roll with it, and two--he called her nice, in spite of all the teasing she puts him through... ]

...Oh.

[ Give her a moment... ]

I guess I wouldn't have thought that. Uh. Maybe I'll keep an eye out for her...?

[ Oh, no. That caught her off-guard, after all. ]

I wouldn't. She likes her privacy, so might as well keep it that way.

[That's a funny response, though, and one that emboldens him enough to say, a little tentatively,] She likes it enough not to show her hood here, anyway. Might be too much of a trademark symbol by now.

[ Damn you, Jaime Reyes. There's a long, long pause on her end after he ventures to say that; she weighs her options. It's pretty clear that he'd figured her out from the get-go, and he's being surprisingly resilient against her attempts to keep the act up. And then he had to say all of that, whatever that was, and how strange it was that it didn't sound put-upon or fake. It sounded genuine. At length, she sighs, and her voice drops back down to her usual register, albeit hushed. ]

... How'd you know?

Uh. Depends?

[Surprisingly resilient is, generally speaking, a good way of describing Jaime Reyes. He seems about as yielding as a kid his age could get, but when push comes to shove, he can be absolutely pig-headed.

It's not always a positive trait.]

Do you know me?

[It's a dumb question, maybe, but one he feels like he has to ask. He never knows when one person has been replaced with another from a different universe, and it's happened to him far, far too many times to be cautious about it.]

[ She tilts her head at him, unaware of his wondering if she's a bizarro-Kasumi, and she folds her arms as a grin curls her lips. ]

I know you hate hearing Journey songs. And that you have an evil twin brother.

[ That's enough of an explanation, right? ]

I only hate them when someone's forcing them on me, [he says, though his smile means that he buys it. Only Kasumi would say nonsense like that. He shoves his hands into his pockets, tilting his head at her.]

I got, uh... some DNA reading powers? Usually I have 'em turned off, but they kick in sometimes without me meaning to have 'em on.

[That's the explanation he usually gives, and it is, to be fair, a true one.]

But I wasn't gonna confront you in public, or nothing. Plus, I turned them off right after, so I wanted to make sure.

[ Excuse you, Jaime, it's not nonsense, as Joaquin is very real. But there's a look of puzzlement on her face as she considers the thought of Jaime having powers. For some reason, in spite of the fact that she knows all of the imPorts have powers, she's never thought about Jaime having them, too.

For the longest time, she sort of considered his irrepressible friendliness and ability to worm his way into people's hearts to be his superpower. ]

I appreciate it. [ She shakes her head. ] I probably could've kept it up if you didn't get all sappy at me.

[ Sap is, after all, Kasumi's weakness. It's why she stays away from trees. ]

[khajidont]

That's not sap! I'm just a very honest person!

[Boy, is he ever going to eat his words. But he was being honest about Kasumi, anyway. He likes her, and he's pretty sure she likes him too.]

You do look nice under the hood, y'know. You just took it off so people wouldn't recognize you without it...?

[stealwithit]

[ stop it Jaime you're too much ]

No... That was definitely sap. But really, I appreciate it.

I figured I'd get more recognized with a hood on at this point. It was a huge risk doing this, but I'm actually having fun seeing what this whole thing's about. But... I'm going to have to ask you to keep quiet about this, though, yeah? Got to keep up all that mystique.

[khajidont]

[Jaime places one hand up in the air, and places his other hand on his chest.] Cross my heart. Don't worry, I'm good at keeping secrets! Except... does your team know what you look like under there, or are you fooling them too?

[stealwithit]

[ she shrugs. ] Some of them know. Shep and Kaidan do, at least...

I remain shrouded in mystery for the rest.

Just making sure! Those two are pretty much the only guys I talk with regularly, anyway. So... are they just the two you're closest with, or did they find out by accident like me?

[stealwithit]

Well, Shep--he's the commander, you know? I trust him with pretty much anything after everything he's done for me.

And Kaidan. Well, he was just kind of there since they're living together and all that. I don't really mind that he knows, though. He's a good guy behind all the glaring and gelled up hair.
