( continued from here )

[ Now science he loves talking about, and while he may not be the kind to brag, he's all too happy to talk about his fields of work and interest. Especially with Doc, of all people. ]

I'm a nuclear physicist, with an extensive background in biochemistry, nuclear engineering and gamma radiation. Here, I work as a geneticist. But I dabble a lot in other areas. [ By virtue of need or interest over the years. ] What about you?

[ Sure, Bruce, ask like you don't know the answer already. ]
4thdimensional: (it works!)

...as it happens, I'm also a nuclear physicist. though my focus leans toward mechanics. As of late, I've largely been repairing hoverboards. It's a fair enough living, though I'm still in the market for other projects.

[They're going to get along just fine. He's excited.]

Anything interesting in your studies thus far?
hyperkinesia: (What did they need the Iridium for?)

[personal profile] hyperkinesia 2016-05-02 01:39 pm (UTC)(link)
That's great. I've done a little bit of everything, and I'm no stranger to mechanical applications myself. We could probably have fun coming up with some crazy stuff.

[ You know, because crazy and somewhat unpredictable machines are a great idea. What could possibly go wrong? ]

Depends on your definition of interesting. [ Avoiding is the name of the game. ] I've had some unusual results when I was working with anti-electron collision and radiation resistance some years ago. I stopped for a while after that, but I've developed other things, ranging from radiation sensors to heart rate stabilizing drugs.

[Doc's eyes light right up. He'd love nothing better than to work on 'some crazy stuff'.]

Undoubtedly useful and necessary. Have you had luck finding employment here? I believe we have some organizations with similar life-enhancing goals.
hyperkinesia: (You have to narrow the field.)

[personal profile] hyperkinesia 2016-05-08 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Bruce is very familiar with the man's love for crazy stuff, thus his choice of words. Partly he's just being a nerd, he knows, but he's also genuinely interested to see what it'd be like to work on something with a fellow scientist he's never worked with before. And this is a kind of 'one in a lifetime' opportunity, so. ]

I've been working as a geneticist here, actually. It's something I can do, and I like it too, so I haven't felt the need to look around for something else. [ A pause, particularly considering that last comment. ] Unless you have some suggestions...?
4thdimensional: (don't stop me marty)

[personal profile] 4thdimensional 2016-05-10 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
I'm actually the one looking for suggestions.

[He looks faintly embarrassed.]

I could kindly describe my current employment situation as freelancing, and to an extent it is, but I feel I might need something more stable. As it turns out, the local disco joint did not feel I was an appropriate DJ.
hyperkinesia: (None of this smells a little funky?)

[personal profile] hyperkinesia 2016-05-14 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Oh my God. Bruce has to take a moment to not actually laugh at that. That's about the least fitting job to give a man like Doc. Even if now that he's imagining it, it must've been pretty entertaining to see— for the mere chaos and mess and confusion, really. He's wondering if there were small explosions involved. ]

Alright, uh... I don't have any ideas right now, but I'll keep my eyes peeled for you. I'm sure there's plenty about this world I don't know yet, but once I've got a better grasp I might be able to offer some suggestions. How does that sound?

Splendid, thank you very much.

[Doc smiles broadly.]

You needn't worry about me crowding the house, there's more than enough to keep me occupied outside it. I'll likely only be in the way to feed the dogs when Qubit is unavailable.
hyperkinesia: (And he tells you everything?)

[personal profile] hyperkinesia 2016-05-15 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, don't— that's not a problem. I kind of like it. I mean, that we're all people of science. Sharing a house with people like that is... I don't know, kind of fun. Like I'm finally getting my college roommate experience or something.

[ A little belatedly, but still fun. Probably more fun now that they're adults with doctorates and can do whatever they want. Within reason. ]
4thdimensional: (see you in the future)

[personal profile] 4thdimensional 2016-05-17 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
[Doc can certainly share that feeling. He almost looks to be lost in nostalgia.]

My college experience was similarly lacking, but we have a fair group. I could certainly be in a worse place---and I'm glad to have you aboard. It would be considerably more difficult with roommates mismatched to us...

[Well, there's Komasan, but he's easygoing.]
hyperkinesia: (Do you have somewhere for me to work?)

[personal profile] hyperkinesia 2016-05-18 11:33 am (UTC)(link)
Either that, or people difficult to get along with.

[ He's thinking more along the lines of hostile or dangerous, actually. But that's a peculiar kind of problem when it comes to Bruce, and he knows it's not the same for everyone else. ]

Anyway, I should let you get back to your sales. I'll catch you around later? If not here, then back at the house.
