WHEN: Midday, February 6th.
WHAT: Nick tries to get into his room without incident, meets his new roommates - and an old one, too.
WARNINGS: There will PROBABLY be gross tears when Maya gets involved. Also: Akira boys.

[This is not how Nick wanted to get to what was clearly the quarters he'd be assigned.

Still stuck as a small bird - with a plume of fire trailing off his slightly distinctly feathered head. He still wasn't yet used to this body - feathers and fire - ugh, why did it have to be fire... A flash of memory of what had been merely hours ago for him - but the calendar clearly said February.]

(Not that that's any better...)

[Unfortunately, it seems that Nonah 05 is a rather loud place - which puts a damper on the "get inside, not embarrass self further" plan. What's a bird to do?

Luckily, Nick sees an attempt to actually perhaps get to his room and figure out this whole "being a bird" dilemma - an open windowsill.]

(Okay Phoenix... you can do this. It can't be -that- hard to fly, right...?)

[Taking as deep a breath as he can, he flaps those wings, pushing himself off the ground, and soaring in the air-

straight past the windowsill, and into the window.

Turns out, flying? Way harder than it looks. Anyone in the Nonah 05 living room may want to look out.]

[He was following Kaneda, but the moment Ken sees Maya he skids to a stop. His socks slip a little and he bumps into Kaneda, then he hisses a small 'sorry!' and stops to watch them from behind the other boy. This isn't their place to walk in.... but Ken's still watching because he's a little (a lot) nosy when it comes to things like this.]

[Kaneda doesn't move--Phoenix fluttering out of the blanket without any resistance. Maya had seen them, and shock takes precedence over any other function.

Phoenix...changed. Wings and feathers disappearing and turning into a man, well dressed and tall, a suit royal blue in colour and a hairstyle that was distinguishable from anyone he'd ever seen.

This was Phoenix Wright, the most important person in Maya's life.

He doesn't even feel Ken bump into him, watching with wide eyes as the scene unfolds in front of him. He's not selfless enough to usher both of them out, no. Hell, he's not even going to keep completely quiet. Because there's one thing on his mind right now as the two wrap their arms around each other in tears of joy.]




I thought his name was Phoenix.

[amadaman]

[Ken doesn't punch him this time but he's immediately sending him a look. This is why you're such a...!]

Shh!

[Ken wraps his good arm around Kaneda's middle and pulls him a couple steps back. Not far away enough to be out of earshot but still a little ways away.]

It is. Nick is his nickname!

[rassera]

[He's easily moved, more lost in his own thought processes than anything.]

'Nick' is his 'nick'name....

[Kaneda's accent flows as he sounds each part of that out, brows furrowed as he tries to get 'Nick' out of 'Phoenix'.]

'Phoenix'...'Phoe-nicks'....

Nick.

[amadaman]

[Ken just... sighs, shakes his head.]

Yes, that's where it comes from.

[He's still listening to their conversation, though, and he frowns.]

He thought she was dead, huh.

[rassera]

[Kaneda quickly snaps back to attention, ears cluing into their conversation.]

Can't say I don't know the feeling.

Fire, though? Seems kinda...old fashioned.

[amadaman]

[He takes a moment to pick up the towel Phoenix dropped, then picks Koromaru up too to cuddle him. Good boy.]

It also sounds like it was fake? We don't know what sort of world they really come from... at least, I don't. You might.

[rassera]

[Kaneda's hand reaches up, drifting his fingers between Koromaru's ears, watching the two get reunited.]

Not really. Just that their court cases take three days and Phoenix has twelve wins.

[And one loss, apparently.]

[amadaman]

[Koromaru tilts his head into Kaneda's hand and Ken glances from him to the two in front of them.]

Is that possible? I've never met lawyers before. Except Mr Edgeworth.

[rassera]

[Kaneda’s fingers thread through Koromaru’s fine fur, ruffling it just behind the ear. In a way, not all too different from his nervous habit of rubbing his neck.]

Not where I’m from. You were lucky to GET to court. You know. /Accidents happen/.

[amadaman]

[Ken steps closer so Koromaru can crawl over into Kaneda's arms, which the dog promptly does.]

But in that case the prosecution can totally have twelve spread-apart wins. But he's a defense attorney...

[rassera]

[Kaneda accepts him willingly, pulling him close to his chest.]

Exactly. Defense attorneys don't even WIN. Fuck 12 times...

[amadaman]

[Ken always does his best to hold Koromaru and Koromaru does his best to fit, but Kaneda is still bigger with longer and -- currently especially -- stronger arms. He wiggles around to get comfortable, then nudges his wet nose at Kaneda's face.]

I bet it's a crazy world.

He's probably not a bad person, though. If he's good for Maya-san...

[rassera]

[Kaneda's head tilts back a little, surprised by the cold, wet nose against his face. It's not unwelcome, though. Kaneda's always had a fondness for dogs since he got Capsule, despite his reason to hate them otherwise. His arms fit Koromaru easily in them, and with a little adjustment, has a nice comfortable hold on him to give a quick 'boop' on his nose.]

Yeah...it's like she's completely different from how she was this morning.

[amadaman]

[Koromaru's reaction is to try to catch that booping finger with his mouth, but not seriously so. He's not about to bite the guy. He's perfectly content to be held like this and rests his chin on Kaneda's shoulder, sighing.]

... The person most important to her, huh.

Like you and Tetsuo-san.

[rassera]

[You know you've done something right when a dog rests its head on your shoulder. That hand that Koromaru playfully nipped at is going to rest along his back now, rubbing that white fur.]

...

[And it's hard to hide a smile at what Ken says next.]

Yeah. Like me and Tetsuo.

[Like Ken and his mother.]

[Ken tears his gaze away from Maya to check on Kaneda, relaxing a little himself when he sees him smiling.]

She'll be okay now. [And with her okay, everyone else will be too.]
