WHAT: Quickie log for Hamada family hijinks & Halloween cuteness
WARNINGS: NOTHING BUT ADORABLE IN HERE

[ It's Halloween! The café is open this evening and the delicious smells of pumpkin spice everything waft out through the front door whenever someone walks in. Today, however, if you wander in you'll be greeted by at least one of the Hamadas. Probably the smallest one, who's wearing the world's laziest Halloween costume - a pair of black cat ears nearly invisible against his messy mop of hair. (He had a tail at some point, but it's somewhere behind the counter now.)

Hiro's got the basket with normal candy, though Cass has made adorable cookies that will surely find their way into the hands of any visitor before they can escape. ]

Y'know, it's kind of nice to be working on Halloween.

[ Mostly because Hiro has spent all afternoon grazing liberally from the candy bowl. He has the remains of a sucker in his mouth now, the stick bobbing up and down as he talks.

[Ken strolls in around the same time as Kaneda, and while his doesn't seem as elaborate, there's no way to doubt that his extremely baggy, extremely comfortable looking Koromaru kigu is handmade. After all, how often do you find kigus of a white hiba with wings? Koromaru bounces around his feet enthusiastically with his own orange hoodie. It's obvious that these two are together.

Ken's cheerful as he steps out of the way of a particularly large pizza costume and waves to the brothers.]

Hi, you're busy as ever.

[ Hiro brightens immediately upon seeing him. Doubly so when he realizes what the costume is. ]

'course I am. I'm working two jobs now.

... Dude, are you Koromaru for Halloween?

Yup. Classmate's idea. She helped me make it. And there's Koromaru, too.

[Bark bark bark! Doge in an orange hoodie.]

[ Hiro can't help but crack up a little at that. ]

He wears it even better than you.

... Hey!

[RUDE]

I said even better, jeez. Don't be jealous of a dog.

You just here for candy or you want something to eat too?

[It's his signature article of clothing! What will he do with his identity if the dog wears it better? He stops sulking, at least, and shakes his head.]

I think I'm good. I'm with my friends, so they're here for the candy but I wanted to say hi. You're going to be here all night?

[ Poor, poor Ken. Hiro offers the bowl for him to peruse anyway, with a waggle intended to be tempting - Aunt Cass only stocks the best, doesn't she? ]

That's the plan. I'm not trick-or-treating and I don't feel like going to the costume dance or whatever, so here works.

[ Back home, he might have been a little fussed about it, but here? It's a lovely homelike feeling. ]

[Only the best! And Ken's gotten accustomed to being offered snacks over the day, so he reaches in and pulls out a little lollipop without hesitation. It's orange, of course. What else would it be?]

I'm surprised. But I guess also not, you can get all the candy here without going anywhere.

... This isn't the sort of holiday where families get together to do anything, is it?

Exactly. I get all the leftovers.

[ Or as many as he can squirrel away before his aunt catches on, anyway. He's experimenting with dropping them in his comm for later. ]

... Not really? Unless you count trick-or-treating?

I'm only just now grasping what that even means, to be honest. I heard about Halloween while I was in Japan, too, but only in passing? So I don't really know what the whole thing is about.
