WHO: Hiro + Tadashi + Cass, anyone else who wants to stop by
WHERE: Lucky Cat Café, Heropa Edition
WHEN: Halloween evening-ish!!
WHAT: Quickie log for Hamada family hijinks & Halloween cuteness
WARNINGS: NOTHING BUT ADORABLE IN HERE
[ It's Halloween! The café is open this evening and the delicious smells of pumpkin spice everything waft out through the front door whenever someone walks in. Today, however, if you wander in you'll be greeted by at least one of the Hamadas. Probably the smallest one, who's wearing the world's laziest Halloween costume - a pair of black cat ears nearly invisible against his messy mop of hair. (He had a tail at some point, but it's somewhere behind the counter now.)
Hiro's got the basket with normal candy, though Cass has made adorable cookies that will surely find their way into the hands of any visitor before they can escape. ]
Y'know, it's kind of nice to be working on Halloween.
[ Mostly because Hiro has spent all afternoon grazing liberally from the candy bowl. He has the remains of a sucker in his mouth now, the stick bobbing up and down as he talks.

But when Ken asks him to go trick-or-treating, with the bonus of stopping by the Lucky Cat Cafe...he's skeptical.
He really...really hates Halloween.
But he loves the promise of food more.
The only downside? It's a Tails day, and luck's definitely not on his side as he practically trips over Capsule, almost smudges all that hard work, forgot three things inside the house (sorry Ken), and now...
hitting his head on the door on the way in.
HALLOWEEN SUCKS.]

You look grumpy as all heck.
no subject
Surprised I got over here without getting hit by a car or some shit.
[The night's still young, Kaneda, have faith.]
...
[He takes a piece of candy, though, inspecting it. Because hi what is American sweets.]
no subject
... Jeez, is it really going that bad?
no subject
Well...I guess it's--
[Too late, he literally just almost walked into that table and landed on it.]
Goddammit...

Surprised you're not out there, you know. Dip and Mabel are out, Ken's technically out...
no subject
[ He snags some of those mochi cookies and a couple of pumpkin spice tarts. ]
no subject
[His neck cranes, watching Hiro grab the sweets in curiosity, then looking idly at his package of Fun Dip.]
no subject
[ He just sets them down in front of Kaneda too. Go nuts, dude. ]
no subject
Because how did you know.]
...
[Numbly. Grabs. Cookie.]

-- Isn't like every other person like that? I swear all of my friends are.
[ Nailed it. ]

[He thinks on that a moment, mulling over the different people he's met. Riku was kind of like that...Ken had his own shit to work out...
...guess it doesn't seem all that odd, considering everything.
Nice save, Hiro. Nice save.]
Yeah. Well, guess you can add me to that list, huh?
[Considering his reaction was probably all too obvious. His gaze turns to the cookie, though, inspecting it.]
Cute...

... You okay there, buddy?

'm fine!
[Or he can.]
Just...one of those days, you know?
[There's a smile, but it's clearly just for Cass not to worry.]
no subject
[Cass smiles back. While she's not being a worry wart over it, there's simple sympathy there in her smile. Just a quiet offer of understanding as she gently lets the door fall closed and steps aside to let Kaneda make his way into the store.]
You're accompanying your friend, right? I see him with Hiro a lot -- do you want a cookie?
no subject
[He takes that door she's holding open, stepping in and...lifting his feet up to make sure he doesn't catch himself on the change in floor. Because that would be something that would happen.
It's really sad how you look for that shit...]
Ken? Yeah, he asked me to come with hi--cookie?
[Sorry, he's got a one track mind.]
no subject
They're our Halloween treat today. Remind Ken to grab one for himself before he leaves too, okay? Aside from the luck today, how have you been?
no subject
No, he's looking at that design. Holding it between his forefinger and thumb, he squints at the little details. Funny, he could swear it almost looked like Krem...coincidence?
A soft 'kawaii...' might have escaped his lips.]
Will do!
[But at the question, he smiles, putting a hand in a pocket with a casual shrug.] Can't complain, all things considered. You just gotta take each day as it comes, right?
no subject
[That's how she's done it, and it worked out for her. But validity of the statement and mindset aside, she thinks that's most important is in the knowing. She's glad this kid seems to know what attitude he wants to have when facing the world, and for that, she reaches into the bowl of candy Hiro and Tadashi set out and gives him a couple of candies from that, too.]
But I'm surprised. That boy never seemed like the type to ask for a chaperone.
no subject
His hand instinctively reaches out, looking at the candy that falls in his hand (what even is 'Pop Rocks'?) as he goes to sit down, nearly tripping over two chairs in the process.]</small Ah, yeah--OW--I think he just wanted me to come along and pulled that card. Even more surprised it worked.
no subject
Looks like someone's got you wrapped around his finger. Are you usually this unfortunate?
no subject
Boy have you got that right, Cass. There's a soft shake of his head.]
I have my good days and my bad. And when they're bad...they're...
[A gesture out, as if to say 'this'.]
no subject
Is that just the way it is? Or... more of a power-related deal? It sounds pretty extreme if you ask me.
no subject
Power. File calls it 'luck manipulation', just being around people I can change their luck--
[Brb leaning slightly away from her.]
You know...good or bad.
