WHO: claire + science bros
WHERE: de chima
WHEN: oct. 4
WHAT: newt is ecstatic. claire looks at her life and choices. hermann no longer bothers.

[ even if she had not received a call informing her of her guests' arrival, claire would know they are here from the sounds emanating from the foyer. claire breathes deeply through her nose, and pastes a wide, friendly smile across her face before stepping into view. she greets both doctors warmly, makes sure they both have their passes, then leads them into the museum proper, her heels clicking rhythmically on the floor. ]

— so where would you like to start?

[ the question, after a brief summary of the museum's exhibits and its current goals, is just a touch teasing. she knows exactly where one of the good doctors would like to start, as she suspects that he will happily spend all week with ripley alone. but there is dr. gottlieb to consider.

and lbr claire is plenty terrible too when she wants to be. building the suspense was and remains a part of her job description.

[Hermann can hardly recall the last time he'd stepped foot in an honest museum. Planetariums of course, and a zoo a time or two in his youth, but a museum? Perhaps for a school trip he can't remember- or is that Newton's memory?

In any case, they're there now and the man next to him can barely contain his excitement, so an extensive tour is out of the question. Still, they could stand to show some interest in the woman's profession]

It's something of a long shot, but there I don't suppose there are records of any massive, unidentified bone structures not on display?

[Newt vibrates with excitement, fiddling with his pass as Claire gives them a rundown of the museum's features and operations and it's all almost too much. A live dinosaur! He had always been fascinated by them, but never had the patience for paleontology. Dead things were so much less interesting that live ones. Oh man oh man. Hermann shut up.

He turns, exasperated (and a little worried, somewhere deep under his annoyance), and snaps at Hermann.]

Would you stop already? As much as I appreciate your sudden enthusiasm for Kaiju, Hermann--really--what are you going to do if you find out they WERE here?

[He looks at Claire.]

Excuse him. [Then, after a pause, leaning in and with a semi-hushed tone] ...You don't actually have any fossils like that, do you?

[They follow along and Hermann quietly lectures Newton about probabilities and alternate dimensions and timeline changes and implications revolving around the possibility that Kaiju had ever stepped foot in the world they're in]

Not fascination, Newton. Data points. As you know, my current project..

[Hermann quiets in the examination room, suddenly remembering why they're actually there and completely disassociated from Newton's enthusiasm. The shadows, claws, and sounds are like something from a movie and he attempts to remember why he ever insisted on coming along. But surely next to a kaiju, a small carnivorous dinosaur... alright yes, he has every reason to be cautious and make sure everyone lives through the encounter]
