[It was finally finished. The design had been rattling around in his head since before he had even arrived on this alternate earth, but when Jeff Winger had brought up wingpacks as a joke, it kept rattling around louder and louder until completing it was all he could focus on. The design was supposed to be for Brenda, a new, improved pair of wings for her Raptor costume so that she could throw away that last bit of her old life. But here... here they were just another one of his creations, a byproduct of a mind with an occasionally selective focus, as his wife wasn't here to enjoy them.
So he would enjoy them for her. Everything went smooth: gaining air, maintaining a certain height, flying in circles... For a few minutes, should anyone look up, it would seem like a giant bird was circling the Nonah housing complex. He was getting the hang of this.
This was pretty easy. Why didn't he think this would be easy? And then he remembered: back when he and Brenda first started to get serious, she let him try her wings. He had barely gotten off the ground before making a wrong hand motion and landing on his face. But that was then, this was now--
And now he was plummeting back down to the ground again, having turned his arm the wrong way and somehow managing to lock the controls on himself.
Crap.
Should anyone see him falling, but are unable to help him in the air, they can find him in his backyard, miraculously uninjured, unless you count sore an injury.]

[They knew going out is dangerous. Matt had warned that there was someone in possession of a symbiote (curiously not Eddie Brock) who had been here before, and they didn't doubt that person's reputation proceeded them. For months, he had taken that warning to heart. Sure, Normie never went anywhere without his other, who usually took the form of his clothes, but they almost never did anything out of the ordinary, nothing that Normie wouldn't do even if he wasn't in possession of his other.
But they were tired of hiding. They wanted to help, to make a difference--to be heroes. The feeling had been gnawing at them ever since they agreed to lay low, but had crescendoed over the last few weeks as the Cold War suddenly felt a lot warmer.
Moving through the shadows as... it really was pathetic that it's been months and they still have yet to come up with a good name, they finally felt whole again, for the first time in months. They're trying to keep a low profile, but you know what they say about the best laid plans. Perhaps you hear something rustling behind you, or catch sight of their white eyes and white spider symbol seeming to float in the darkness.
Or perhaps you see them poised to strike behind some hapless criminal, their right hand replaced by a sharp, black blade the same material as the rest of them.]

Closed to Riku and Loki
He then gets a thought and pulls out his phone, sending out identical texts to two of his contacts which reads "Could use your help on a project. Come to Nonah 004. P.S. What are your thoughts on flight?." The first is sent to Riku, and the second to Loki. Upon sending the second message, he stares at the screen for a minute. God, he really needs
morebetter friends if the second person he feels he can trust to try his wife's wingpack is the god of mischief and lies.]no subject
Normie's kind of just sitting in his yard when he gets there, and Riku raises a brow as he parks, dropping his helmet nearby and approaching.]
I don't have any thoughts on flight, I'm mostly just curious.
no subject
it never does. perks of being a god. ]
It's more of my brother's thing.
[ Loki says, giving Riku a very tactless up and down. ]
no subject
Wow you both must have been really bored. I feel like I just sent messaged you.
Riku, Loki. Loki, Riku.
[Picks the pair of mechanical wings off the table, which Loki might recognize as reminiscent of the Vulture's.]
I was curious if either of you would want to test drive these. I've discovered I lack the coordination to do so myself.
no subject
Nice to meet you.
[Once introductions are out of the way, he peers over at the wings, almost squinting. Is this for real?]
You made wings?
no subject
[ all right, he can do the mortal thing. he takes his hand and shakes it briefly. firm grip, a slightly playful handshake with dark nailed fingers and a single, almost wave-like motion.
he tips his head toward him, still faintly dubious, before his attention goes back to Normie and the ... thing that he has in his hands. the metal wings. the wings made of metal. the metal that's forming two very large, human-attaching wings.
the dubious look at Riku becomes dubious for another reason entirely. ]
It seems that he's made wings.
no subject
I made wings.
[Everyone else was saying it.]
I make a lot of things.
[Things that, in the grand scheme of everything, aren't that important right now. He raises the wings a bit higher.]
...So would either of you be game?
no subject
[Riku peers past Loki to take in the sight of the wings.]
But they work? They can lift a person?
no subject
[ that leaves it to Riku, doesn't it? Loki takes a few casual strides forward to lean down and inspect them, touching them tactlessly like he was invited. ]
I have other things for that, but—[ looking at u, Riku. ]
no subject
Of course they work.
[Looks from Riku to Loki. Excuse you, who said you could touch it?]
Is everyone satisfied they work now?
RUDE
It just seems... difficult. But then I don't really know anything about science stuff, so I guess I have no right to an opinion anyway.
[Loki's looking at him, and Riku looks down at the wings, then up to Normie.]
Okay, I'll try them.
no subject
Don't swallow too many bugs up there.
no subject
Normie hands Riku the pair of wings and explains the basics on how to wear them, turn them on and how they work. It's pretty simple and self-explanatory, for the most part. They're meant to simulate real wings as much as possible.]
Want me to spot you in the air?
no subject
Riku nods to Normie's explanation, listening quietly for a moment. He straps them on experimentally -- they spread easily, the way he'd imagine a bird would.]
Maybe at first.
no subject
[ Loki says amiably, and perhaps a little amused. it's not like the bugs knew where they were going.
he watches the exchange between Normie and Riku, tipping his head to the side. ]
no subject
He sees Loki's look and smirks as he steps onto it.] What kind of Osborn would I be if I didn't have one of these laying around?
no subject
[Riku stares over at Normie's board, eyebrow raising.]
Didn't I see you working on that once like, ages ago?
no subject
he should be more bitter about it than amused, but he can't help but feel a tad satisfied. ]
no subject
[Yes, he did just quote Edna Mode. Since coming here, The Incredibles has quickly become his new favorite Disney/Pixar flick. Several times Normie had actually thought to ask Riku if he happened to be familiar with any of them (as actual people), since he seemed to be acquaintances with a shocking number of Disney characters, but he never actually got around to asking.]
You wanna join us, Loki? There's room for two on this thing, and I have a spare set of magnetic locks hidden in that oven over there.
[Motions with his head to the large, abandoned tandoor oven off to the side. Normie had built it for a roommate who had long since left, and now mainly uses it to store random things.]
no subject
Okay, let me get settled here.
[Riku's just gonna go ahead and ignore both of the others for a moment, moving the wings tentatively. It's weird, like as if his arms just got really long.]
no subject
[ Loki tosses up his fingers and offers a little shrug. ]
I do, however, have other ways if it becomes all too boring here on the ground. They don't call me Skywalker for nothing.
[ and then he looks at his nails, speaking mostly to himself. ]
Ah, Loki Skywalker always had a good ring to it.
no subject
[Smirks.] Are you going to tell us you're Anakin's father? Or is Luke your father?
[Looks over at Riku] If you don't want them hanging on your arms like that, you can do this--[Makes a motion that looks similar to if he were trying to bring his elbows together behind his back.]--they'll click together and sort of drape over your back like a cape. Do it again when you're ready to go and they'll click back to your arms.
no subject
... Right. [He follows Normie's advice, and the wings get out of his way suddenly. How useful.] What are you even planning to do with these? Just have them around?
