WE PLAYED GOLF ON THE MOON
WHO: Josuke Higashikata & Usagi Tsukino
WHERE: an arcade in Heropa
WHEN: March 7th, Saturday afternoon
WHAT: Some game nerds playing laser tag
WARNINGS: Nah! It'll just be cute and funny I suspect

It's a rainy weekend in Heropa, though mild in temperature. But precipitation posed no threat to two teens that had a date with laser-filled destiny! Or at least to the teenager walking down the street with a bounce in her step.
Usagi had headed out from her apartment to the designated arcade without even so much as a pout in regards to the rain. With a starry umbrella resting over her shoulder, she was more than happy to make her way on foot. This girl was in too good of a mood, not even a dreary day could dampen her spirits! With her headphones plugged in, she hummed softly to herself the whole way.
This wasn't the arcade she usually frequented, but somewhere new! This one had a smaller selection of games in the front room, making it seem pretty meager in comparison. But, what made this particular arcade so special, was that the rest of its building lot was made up of a truly impressive laser tag arena. With obstacles and structures situated all throughout the arena, it created a maze of glow-in-the-dark hiding spots and perches.
It must have been a blue moon last night because Usagi, for once, arrives on time.

But the truth is? He's been lying in wait so that he can ambush her. And why not, right? It's in the spirit of their game date, after all!
Dropping his hands, he shoves them into his pockets and grins playfully at his partner for the day. It's obvious by the way his eyes shine and by the sheer width of his smile that he's excited to get started. Obvious, too, that the weather's far from getting him down (or his hair, for that matter).
"You ready," he asks, and then adds with a faintly challenging tone, "to get your butt handed to you? 'Cause I'm not gonna be gentle!"
omg he's adorable
His voice registers at a delay, so when she spins on him as he pocketed his hands, her cheeks up in a pout upon recognition.
"Josuke! You scared me!"
Perhaps she was a bit more jumpy form the previous month's events… but even if she hadn't been, he still got her good this time. However, after seeing his big grin and bright eyes, her momentary annoyance deflates. What a doof.
Usagi stands as tall as she can (a pointless effort when close to Josuke), a hand on her hip.
"No way I'm letting you win!"
don't tell him that it'll go to his head
Shameless, he keeps grinning at her.
"That was the point, you know? And boy, do you scare easily." Oh yeah, he's a doof. The biggest doof and proud of it, too! "Just means once we're inside...taking you down's gonna be that much easier!"
He's a lot of talk, of course. He's decent at video games on a good day, but on any day, he tends to overreact to a lot of things and beating him's actually not too difficult. Unless the person he's playing against is more overreactive than he is!
Taking the lead as they approach the building's entrance, Josuke holds open the door for Usagi - a gentleman despite all his teasing.

This has the potential of being a pretty evening matched laser battle… in that they both seem to be rather overdramatic, both on and off the playing field. But having well match opponents is what makes an exciting game! It wouldn't be any fun if one or the other was over-powering.
His chivalrous gesture of opening the door for her is another point on her figurative "Josuke is a pretty great guy" chart, but she keeps her head high and proud as she walks into the arcade.
"Thank you." though she can't not be polite to a friend.
Being a rainy Saturday, there were a god bunch of people here to play their day away. Usagi only realizes now that hopefully they'll be able to get a slot in the laser tag schedule. She takes the lead to the back counter, resting her hands on the smooth surface as she looks up to the man on shift. He seems to be around college age, a part-timer, like she and Josuke no doubt.
"Um, hi! We'd like to be able to play a game of laser tag, please."
The worker behind the counter nodded and tapped away on the just-a-bit out of date computer. Pausing as he checks something over on the monitor. "There's some people in there right now… but there's a free slot open in 10 minutes. That alright?"
"Perfect!" she said brightly, any last minute concerns she had completely forgotten.
"Ok... Just two of you, right? You'll both need a ticket... That'll be 15 bucks each."
As Usagi slipped a strap of her backpack off her shoulder to fish inside for her wallet, the arcade employee continued.
"Each game slot has 3, 10 minute rounds. Once I give you your tickets, you can head over to the back," he motions with his hand, "and put anything you don't want to take into the arena with you, in one of those lockers. Then you can go through the first door into the equipment room and grab your gear: a chest plate/back plate, and laser gun."
Success! Usagi takes the necessary amount of cash out of her cutsie little rabbit-pattered wallet and puts it on the counter.
"Then just wait for the intercom recording to start up, which will explain the rules. The door to the arena will then be open and you can play away." This employee seems a bit bored as he speaks. Clearly he's had to memorize a script to repeat back to customers.

Josuke is a step ahead of her, cash rifled out of his wallet and smacked down atop the counter before the attendant's register. He's excited to get this contest started, although the real aim of his game isn't to win or beat Usagi so much as it is to have fun and get to know her better. They've only had the opportunity to hang out a few times, so he really wants to make the most of this.
When they're directed towards one of the lockers, Josuke says to her, "We should probably put your umbrella and backpack in one."
He doesn't have much himself to store away, plans to keep his wallet in his pocket (because he's had quite enough of things within it getting misplaced or stolen lately and he doesn't want to take any more chances with it now than he has to) but he has no issue being the one to rent the space that'll keep Usagi's stuff safe! Even has a quarter at the ready.
"C'mon," he says, pocketing his ticket. "The faster we pack up our stuff in the locker, the faster we can go gear up and get ready to kick some ass!"

Like him, Usagi wasn't just in this for the competitive aspect. It was also a way for her to get to know her new friend better! So far, she really liked him though. He was kind, and funny, and they clearly shared interests! Not to mention, she did think he was cute…
Quickly stashing her stuff, her jacket added to the mix, she looked back to Josuke, a big grin on her face.
"Let's go!"
It was her time to be polite, so she scurried over to the door, holding it open for him, before heading in herself.
This was a relatively small room in between the main arcade and the laser tag arena. Opposite the door they entered, there was another, the one to the arena. Along the wall, to the right of the next door, were racks of the different pieces of armor and row of charging laser guns. Opposite the gear, on the wall to the right of the door they entered, was a long, simple bench. The aforementioned intercom was situated above the doorway to the arena.
The chest/back plates appeared to be arranged according to size, each measurement label hung above it's corresponding rack. So Usagi nabbed a small, slipping the gear over her head and velcro-ing the straps at her sides. Each armor plate had a panel on it to register the laser gun hits. She picked up one of the laser guns as well, turning to face Josuke, with her free hand on her hip.
"I'm totally winning this!"
