WHO: Hisoka and Chrollo
WHERE: Chrollo's bedroom
WHEN: The morning of the 17th
WHAT: Waking up, chatter about things, info trading, who even knows
WARNINGS: (Past) Adult implications? No biggie though, far as I know.
Chrollo has absolutely no sleep schedule to speak of, being prone to sleeping when he's done with what he's doing, and waking up when he's tired of sleeping. His lack of what one could call a regular work schedule helps with this - he has jobs... sometimes, and then sometimes he doesn't, and when he doesn't he's more likely to read than sleep, sometimes for days at a time. Which means every time he opens his eyes, he's unsure of the time until he checks the clock.
On this particular occasion, it says 11:43. A glance at the window tells him this references the morning and not the evening. Properly situates him. Very good. He yawns a little, rubs the remnants of sleep from his eyes, pushes his hair out of his face. It's only then that he looks from the window to the space beside him on the bed... or rather, the lack of space. Occupied space.
Not an unfamiliar status quo, these days.

Like last night. Fell asleep, still covered in neon paint and smell of strawberries, but it's not like he could help himself against it all, so of course he'd still smell like strawberries even after a long night. And the paint in only the beginning of the mess that covers himself and this poor mattress.
But despite it- he's asleep, peacefully. His head pushed up against a pillow, an arm under it and hugging it close to his cheek. Quiet, laying there, still. As content as he was when he fell into his slumber and as content as he will be waking up- whenever that happens. The slight light that shifts through blinds and hits him does nothing to stir him. He could be like this for a few more minutes, for hours- Hard to say. But there's enough of a smile on his face to say he's happy as he is for now.
no subject
Tedious. Playing the game is, in itself, tedious. Even so, he pushes himself upright, tries to remember when he actually went to sleep... but no, he wasn't really paying attention. As usual. Eh.
So, all right, he should... head into the bathroom - wash up, taking a quick shower, all the things one does with a morning. Later, he'll tidy the room... he guesses, although clutter never bothered him for obvious reasons, given his background. Later, too, he'll throw everything in the laundry, open the windows... maybe. In theory, he should let the sun shine in, there's something to be said for that, he's heard. But the sun is a little too bright for him most of the time, so he may just... skip that part, but...
It shouldn't take much to get things presentable - swap out his decorations, his bedding, maybe even the photos on the walls. They're all becoming tedious, just like the colors had. He probably shouldn't have claimed he wasn't fickle, come to think of it.
Maybe he'll order breakfast? Something like that.
So, plan formed. He swings his feet off the bed and onto the carpet, trying not to disturb Hisoka too much. At least for the moment. Why not let him sleep for now?
no subject
That is a lot of things planned, a lot of things that involve moving around and not staying in bed. It's not even noon yet.
Another tug. Hisoka's face still mostly concealed by pillow, hugging it to himself, his other hand up enough to point, attached to the other end of the Bungee Gum cord currently stuck to Chrollo's lower back.
no subject
Bungee gum. Of course. Why does he know so many people with strings and restraint or tugging capable abilities, anyway?
"What are you doing?"
no subject
"What are you doing?"
no subject
"It's nearly noon." Which is to say, getting up. Doing things. Cleaning. Getting showed and washed up and picking up... flowers or... what do you even bring on dates?
no subject
no subject
(Honestly, what's wrong with him? He sighs and... swings his legs back on the bed.)
"Maybe a few minutes." Ruffling Hisoka's hair a little. "I have a busy day planned. Ah, come to think of it... don't you as well?" Parties and such?
He doesn't even like them, really - people are a little irritating, but it all serves a purpose and it'll be worthwhile in the end, one hopes. For the moment, though, he just pushes Hisoka's messy hair back from his eyes. Such a color, that gold, precious and rare as the metal it mimics.
no subject
"Hmm~" A happy sound, smiling, lips curling a little to show a slight amount of teeth as he pushes closer to him and lifts his head. He grins wider, closing his eyes as he butts against that hand in his hair. A few minutes he says, as Hisoka quickly attaches the cord of Bungee Gum from his hand to the mattress, sticking Chrollo to it as soon as he lays back down.
"Do I?" A breath, closing his eyes and shifting to press his head against Chrollo's chest. Did he? Was there something he had planned- something he had to do? Not that he's aware of. That Mardi Gras party was something he spoke of in passing and made a- few posters for but- it wasn't enough of a reminder to remember right now.
"Mm-" Head lifted with a push of that head, he turns, chin digging into Chrollo's chest a little as he looks up at him, hair pulled out of his face. "?"
no subject
"Assuming you still intend to go, yes. A busy evening, anyway." Ugh, parties. But... it may not be so bad. If nothing else, he should have the opportunity to meet people he'd previously only seen on the network - that could be worthwhile, in itself. The ability to get their measure - see the way they carried themselves, the way they interacted with the world. That could give him clues as to who is and is not worth pursuing.
All running through his head as he strokes Hisoka's hair idly.
no subject
no subject
"That Mardi Gras thing?" Come now, Hisoka, you even chose a tie for him!
no subject
"Ah- that's right." Oh, a tie. Right.
no subject
He doesn't really have a specific reason to wonder. He didn't bother to investigate with gyo or anything of the sort. But he has a feeling - perhaps from knowing Hisoka, spending so much time with him of late. Getting a feel for his ways.
no subject
"Perhaps it's your own newfound lethargy, keeping you in place." Scratches at his chest a little more, eyes closed.
Ya dude, you- are stuck there. Though if you get up you can take the sheets with you and be Superman. Not that you couldn't be Superman already if you just got better acquainted with him here.
no subject
"You are still going, yes?"
no subject
Slides his fingers up, tracing lines over him, his eyes open lids low, watching his own fingers move.
"So you will be then, and I imagine with Jolyne." A pause. "Have you made use of her yet? Or are you still at play?"
no subject
...it's not quite true that no one would miss him. Chrollo would, actually. He's just not sure if he wants to admit to that. Hisoka never seems to take it well when he's honest, even about small things. It's strange but it's true.
"I'll go." He shivers a little under those fingers. After a moment, he drops his head back against the pillows. "I haven't copied her ability yet, if that's what you're asking." For various... reasons. Some of which he's more reluctant to admit to than others. And then... "You should probably release me."
no subject
"Ah- that reminds me." A sigh, closing his eyes again and going still. "There are three people you should look into becoming familiar with."
no subject
no subject
"Cu Chulainn, Crocodile, or Kate Kane?" Which name interested you the most.
no subject
"I haven't heard of the first two. The latter... wasn't she involved with those children?" He remembers something like that. Had run across something about it when doing his pre-introduction research. But now, with the children gone, it's not... that relevant to his mind anymore, so he hasn't thought about her in a while. Not that he thought about her all that much to begin with.
no subject
"Cu, or Lancer, is interesting and similar to myself-" A smirk. "Though he has a different moral system I suppose. He has abilities similar to ours, though I suppose- the term 'magic' comes to mind." Another laugh, laying his cheek down on Chrollo's chest.
"I believe he can call forth some sort of energy and possess things, or- enchant them through this magic, either way it would be an easier power to procure, he's interested in fighting, that being the main reason to look into him." Because easy to instigate is as good of a reason as 'cool power'. If someone had a useful power but was hard to get to use it infront of him- well that's leaning onto useless. Lancer's power(s) may be similar to Nen in a way, but he was much more willing to show off. Still any power could be useful.
no subject
Really, he likes collecting powers. At home, he had pages of things he'd probably never use. Of all the things he'd acquired, only abilities, books and the spiders managed to become staples in his life - the rest he's more than happy to discard.
"Noted. I'll find a way to meet this person. And... Crocodile? I assume it's not a literal lizard."
no subject
"No, but there IS one around if you're interested." A bored look.
no subject
He pauses just before sliding his hand off of said face. Did he really just say that?
...another thing to consciously avoid thinking about. Next. "So, this Crocodile person."
no subject
"Ah- well Crocodile-" A breath, a small smile, actually thinking about Crocodile is nice. He's interesting. "Has the ability to turn his body into sand."
no subject
Well, anyway. Not thinking about it. Chrollo opens one eye and looks over at Hisoka. "Turn his body to sand. Well, that is unique. Useful."
no subject
"And it was quite stimulating to watch~"
no subject
"I'll look into it." And then a pause. He should move on - should ask about Kane, but he's a little bothered so instead he's going to go with, "...how did you witness his abilities in use? Isn't he one of the newest arrivals?"
no subject
"I came across him during those fires, he seemed to have his own reasons to assist those stuck in their homes. It was there I was given this knowledge and and quite some entertainment" Chuckles, tilting his head a little.
"He's quite the show off."
no subject
Honestly, sometimes Chrollo actually annoys himself. What would his people say? And he would definitely like to sit up right now, but considering he's stuck that's a little difficult. Annoying.
"In any case, I'm sure everyone had their own reasons. Even 'heroes' must have a reason to be so..." Heroic. Chrollo doesn't really believe in altruism, at least not when aimed at the general population. It's one thing to care for a single group, a handful of individuals, but who can care for everyone all at once?
no subject
"He is- in a way- like us. Though-" Smirks. "Selfishness may be why we can't get so close. Still, he may prove an ally, consider speaking to him, I will continue to be doing so as well."
no subject
"...and Kane?"
no subject
"Hm- Kate- will prove to be the most difficult but most useful of all three of them." Closes his eyes. "Both due to her personality and yours-" Turns his head, looking down at him with his mouth and chin tucked against his shoulder. "Since you seem to have a soft spot for women." Yeah- that's what he got from Chrollo having yet to take Jolyne's power by the way.
no subject
And speaking of things he does and doesn't have an interest in... "I don't have a soft spot for women." Maybe for that one. A little. He frowns a bit. "What are you talking about?"
no subject
"She's got good instincts, she'll remind you of someone- Disliked me quite quickly." Not that that's hard to do.
"Perceptive and cautious. Aside from high endurance which I'm still not sure about first hand, I believe she has the ability to rid people of their powers." A thoughtful sound, remembering back to the hints his own ability gave him.
"It felt like- should I try and take her- I would have to do so with my hands alone." Which he'd still very much enjoy of course. The thought of it already making his skin prickle.
no subject
Realistically speaking, disliking Hisoka quickly doesn't necessarily tell Chrollo how difficult or easy it would be to manage this Kane person. His faux personality is far more likable to people with delicate sensibilities than Hisoka's real one, especially since Hisoka isn't especially prone to hiding his stranger tendencies. And if she had known those children, then... well. His strange tendencies would have been very evident or at least very known to her.
Even so, there's something about the possibility of blowing his cover to someone who can nullify powers that annoys him. At the same time, what a useful ability.
"Hmmm." He steeples his fingers together, staring at the ceiling some more. "A minefield... with a treasure at the end. Interesting."
I wait with baited breath for every tag, refresh refresh
His movements are languid, pushing off the hand on the mattress to turn and sit up on his knees. The sheets on him fall to his sides, leaving just skin, paint, and flecks of glitter in their stead. It's dim in the room, but enough light streams through the window to catch at his gaze for a moment, sly and focused, back on Chrollo as he pulls a leg over him, and straddles at his hips, sitting there, hands pressed onto Chrollo's stomach.
"Her interest in me will fade as soon as she finds out that those boys are gone, and Illumi as well, so I doubt she'll speak to me again." A smirk, turning his head to the side, blue bangs falling over his eyes a bit. "Except on out second date, she still owes me."
gosh im fluttering now
No, he's not ready to let go of it just yet.
He shifts his gaze in Hisoka's direction, watches the way he moves, the way he sparkles, and then chuckles softly when Hisoka moves atop him. At least he's not still lying there, hiding behind a pillow, hm? Chrollo rests a hand atop Hisoka's, and presses his head back to watch him more directly.
And then he blinks. "Date?" What on Earth is he talking about?
no subject
"Hm?" Fiddling his fingers a little then giving a coy smile.
"It was what I received for giving her some information. Not that she's enjoying it at all, men aren't really interesting to her." If you get his drift. Not- that- he cares? It makes the date even more amusing.
no subject
It's something to approach carefully, to plan for. But definitely something to put on the agenda.
That said... it's also rapidly fading from his mind.
"I didn't think you were the dating sort." Or the dating sim sort, either. Hisoka, always surprising him. "But I suppose I'm not as surprised as I would have been before the erotic dating sims."
no subject
The next comment gets a laugh followed with a sigh as he cocks his head back.
"Why wouldn't I? I enjoy romance. It's usually very entertaining." He's said so before. "Should I select well enough for the outing, I'm hardly ever bored, even without sinking my hands in." Lips peel, slowly looking back down to him and squeezing at Chrollo's fingers between his own.
"Dates are made for social 'butterflies' like me." He remembers you using that word. Butterfly and cat so far it seems.
no subject
Truth be told... he's not really sure what the appeal of romance is, exactly. Most of the time, it seems connected to people's desire to find a life partner of some kind, but he already has a number of those and no desire to date any of them. Dates are, for that matter, a little odd to him - even as someone who has been on them... err, a few times.
"You did say that, yes..." But Chrollo somehow doubts that the romance, in Hisoka's case, is anything like genuine. In fact, that's rapidly confirmed with his talk about entertainment and boredom. And-- "I've been on dates." Reluctantly. Very reluctantly. But, that said...
"Movies are interesting." Pause. "They have unrealistic battle choreography."
no subject
Unbelievable.
A long breath in through his nose, it hitches a few times. More adjusting his hands to slide up a little, leaning more against Chrollo's chest now as he looks down to him.
"Dates are- a chase." Smiles. "I like that about them, romance is as well, a tug and pull, an dance. There's reasons I find it appealing." From- an entertainment standpoint of course. As in Aiai, all those scenarios, near perfect and so very cliche, each one. How to best chase, how to best act to influence the other person, the same could be said in life, though wasn't as easily set out like in Greed Island. He liked it for that. Just another game.
A sigh, mooooving to cross his arms against Chrollo's chest, laying with his chest against Chrollo's stomach, looking up at him from his straddling perch.
"It's called 'theatrics', Chrollo. It's not supposed to be realistic." Just like Hisoka's life, right. All theatrics, all surface and pleasure and plastic emotions that play the part and look nice, and get you started but aren't really there. Movies are a big 'show'. Just as Hisoka is, a show and only he ever gets to see the back stage.
no subject
It's this. Place, though. And... it's this person, too. He tries not to dwell on it, but it's undeniable even so.
Ah well. He listens, now, watching Hisoka, processing that information. A tug and pull, he says. A dance? That same word had been applied to something else entirely recently, and no less accurately than here. That doesn't make his long life and death game with Hisoka romantic, but it definitely clarifies what Hisoka likes about it. Such a fan of chases, of push and pull.
"Your tastes become predictable once one understands the underlying mechanism." He says it almost absently, staring up now, watching shadow. "Yes, I understand. But if romance is a chase, then what do you do if you catch someone? I suppose they must lose their novelty, then." Still looking up. Something about that is a little uncomfortable. Or... no, he knows what it is. Of course he does. The thought puts a slight frown on his face, although it probably just looks as though he's thinking, which... in fairness, he is.
no subject
"Wouldn't that depend on the chase?" Smiles, staring up to him again, watching that expression. Something about this conversation has- weight. He's not sure why.
"But then-" A breath. "If you catch them- don't you have them? Isn't that the point?" Ambiguity, it leaks from this topic, and Hisoka's not emotionally naive enough to not realize it's about them. About this- chase they're in right now. Watches him, wonders why Chrollo is even bothering with this line of thought at all, that being the 'weight'. Implying they'll be done by the end of this- of course they would be, they would've at home right? One of them would die, and that would be that. Hisoka was willing to accept that end.
Though here- death wouldn't become and issue. The chase would end but the ending wouldn't be the same. He could chase forever because he'd never really have Chrollo, never truly own his life, or be owned in-turn. At least- in Hisoka's mind. No death means he'd never get it, so he'd just get to enjoy seeing how it could go, over and over and over in any situation they could get into, seeing if he used a trick once that worked, how Chrollo would go against it the next time and so on. No longer speaking of romance, thinking of it, unless this was as close to romance as Hisoka ever really got. Should he think on it- how he's waited to have this man for years seemed romantic. How he even waits now, how he works to build him up, how strangely close they've become, close enough that even Hisoka sees it, even if he doesn't acknowledge it much.
Close enough that it's difficult to say whether a fight in the end would be even better or- not as good. He thought he was tired of chasing him but it's continuing to be entertaining. Could chase like this for so much longer, especially if he got a fight from him. Got several. Got to see every example of a spar between himself and the Troupe Leader, all that he could do, as far as he could grow- hn-
"Does perfection ever grow old?" Because that's what that chase would be. In both situations. In romance- should it really be pursued, if the chase was everything you wanted, if they were everything you wanted- in life, in love, if it was perfect it would never grow novel. The same could be said about this.
Maybe.
no subject
Distracted, now, by the conversation. And yes, the weight. Chrollo doesn't like to think about it much - doesn't like to acknowledge all the things running in his head. Why pin it down, really, it would only lead to frustration... or worse. He's had enough sadness in his life - even if he's had very little. The last thing he needs to do is add personal frustration over things he's never even considered before coming here. But...
"I suppose that is the point, yes." His voice is soft, but he doesn't look at Hisoka. Just keeps staring at the ceiling. To have someone - that's normally the point of chasing, yes. At least that's his understanding of it. He's never really seen Hisoka as the sort of hold onto something once he'd caught it, but then again... that does conflict with things he's said before, doesn't it?
Which just reminds him that... there's something about Hisoka... something that makes Chrollo feel the need to reorient his thinking. To him, if Hisoka wants to kill something, he can't possibly be trying to keep it - the thing is gone then, there's no keeping it, no having it, nothing at all. To Chrollo, this is the only logical way to view the act of murder. But he does remember... didn't Hisoka once say something about keeping something forever once he'd killed it?
It doesn't make any sense. But at the same time, if he accepts that as reality... then in a certain way...
It hurts his head a little to try to think that way.
He opens his mouth, because he means to say a number of things, all sort of vaguely relevant - that some people lose interest when they've achieved their goals, and that there are different ways to achieve one goal, and something vague about having things being more satisfying when they still exist in the world to be had. Other things, too. But Hisoka says that, and he lifts his head a little and just. Looks at him. For a moment.
The truth is, some people say perfection grows tiresome the fastest of all things. But to Chrollo, this makes no sense either - could something boring truly be said to be perfect? Wouldn't it need an element of ongoing interest to qualify? Also, he's not unobservant or illogical enough to have missed the implications there. Maybe that's why his chest aches.
"...I wouldn't think so." Still watching, for a moment. And then he looks back at the ceiling. It's probably better not to say too much. Emotions are such strange beasts. Cage them too well and they suffocate... but let them run wild and they'll devour you.
