Kill or be killed state of mind
WHO: Shinjiro Aragaki and Reiner Braun
WHERE: SHINJI'S OFFICE, Heropa Youth Center
WHEN: Idk let's say Sept. 5th
WHAT: Reiner is a troubled teen and WHAT DO YOU KNOW, SHINJIRO'S JOB IS TO COUNSEL TROUBLED TEENS. Level up in friendship, perhaps....?
WARNINGS: Attack on Titan Spoilers super likely. (go read the manga and then come back and stalk, we'll wait.)
-----
[After nodding out (and brofisting, the kid seemed to like that,) the last fourteen year old, Shinjiro finally has a break in appointments- which is good, because damn if he hasn't had a second to grab another cup of coffee and turn charts back into the front office for them to-- do whatever shit the receptionists did with them. ('coding and billing' from what he's been able to gather.)
The coffee is bland and kind of watery- but it's free and caffeinated, which really outweigh any of the negatives. Besides, going out and getting a better cup would involve being out in the damn Florida heat longer than was strictly necessary, and despite it being September already? It's still hot as fuck.
So for now he'll linger behind the front desk as the machine brews the coffee, trying to sort out where the four beige and colour-tabbed folders from his previous appointments should go that will get him the least bitched at by the people who needed them next.]

Not necessarily with intent on participating, of course, but... well, he figures it can't hurt just to look. Maybe ask questions, take home a brochure without committing to anything; he might need help, but at the same time he doesn't know if outside help is the right idea.
Luckily, he doesn't have to think about that too hard. Reiner doesn't even make it that far before he sees Shinjiro by the front desk and stops to wave at him. ]
Hey, man! I almost forgot you worked here. How's it going?
no subject
Ah, hey. What's got you here, then?
[He'll walk closer to the counter window, ignoring the peeved look of the receptionist trying to take a phone call as Shinjiro talks above her.]
And I'm alright. Got a break in appointments. [And the girl at the desk finally waves him away with a hand, leading him to circle around the desk to open up the door and meet Reiner around the counter instead, lifting the cup up to his lips.]

Well, I thought... it's sort of stupid, maybe. [ He waves his hand dismissively, to tone down any significance in whatever he might say next. ] But I remembered what you said about helping people here, so I thought-- er, maybe it couldn't hurt just to check it all out, you know?
ahhh my notif got lost, I'm so sorry. >:
Yeah, you mentioned wanting to find a better job. [Well- maybe more fulfilling was the better word. But like hell he was going to correct himself there. Shinjiro pauses enough to sip the coffee, and shrugs.]
You wanna sit down someplace or take a look around...?
[because hey, he might as well kill time with the guy, right?] I dunno what all's hiring, but they have like- coaches and instructors for shit like sports and swimming or whatever... counselors, and god knows what else.
Jesse's pretty much a babysitter- he's got a class full've the real young kids.
IT'S NO PROBLEM
Probably not coaching... I can do self-defense and combat, or something like that, but sports I'm still getting used to. Counseling... [ He pauses, jaw clenching slightly. ] I'm probably not qualified.
[ He looks at Shinji again. ]
How does that work, anyway?
no subject
[Though he does catch the glare that one of the receptionists shoots him for mouthing that off, before rolling a shoulder.] You wanna find someplace to talk? Waiting room might not be best...
[Looking professional and all that. he gestures to the door that leads bad into the various offices.] It depends on what someones coming in for, though. Lotta the time they just need to be steered someway, explain shit and feel like they ain't crazy for it, that sorta thing. Need to find some options to get outta bad situations, sometimes.

[ Reiner's tone is mildly wry, though encouraging. He glances in the direction that Shinjiro indicates, hesitating before he finally nods again.
Explain shit and feel like they ain't crazy for it. Need to find some options to get outta bad situations. It doesn't quite hit the mark, but it hits close enough.
Casually: ]
Sure -- talking probably can't hurt. Just if you don't have anything else to do, I don't want to waste someone else's time.
no subject
Yeah, they do. And a lot've 'em- especially kids and teens- ain't got anyone they feel they can trust like that. other kids talking shit, family overbearing, school staff inept-- they claim, at least. [Another shrug.]
Like I said, I ain't got any appointments for a bit.
[He closes the door behind them, sets his coffee on the desk, and leans back to half-sit on the edge of it, legs kicked out a bit to stabilize himself.]
Like we were saying, working here- Hell, even if its not directly helping people, you can watch kids in the afternoon, or even just schedule appointments up front, I guess. There's other places in town, too.
no subject
He finally says, thoughtfully: ]
That sounds pretty easy. I was always good at that kind of stuff, when people still thought there was more reason to trust me. Do you just listen to them? Be their friend?
[ He looks forward at nothing in particular, eyes briefly far away. ]
And you enjoy it?
